Hyundai Dealer + silly question about buying a car

Does anyone have a Hyundai dealer that they would recommend? I'm looking into Hicksville, Hempstead, and Valley Stream.

I also have kinda a silly question...let's say that I want a 2012 Hyundai Elantra, but the dealer doesn't have that car in inventory at the moment. What happens? Do they order it? Am I SOL?

Dealers can trade with other dealerships in the area. They try not to, since it's more work for them, and cuts into their profits, but they can find them. My truck came from another dealership, and I know several other people who went to Dealer X, but the car came from Dealer Y. You still only deal with your local dealer, but the vehicle was originally somewhere else.

I used Mid Island Hyundai in Centereach and had a great experience with Ray Sweet and Mike Elder. I got the 2012 Elantra too, nice choice!

If the dealer doesn't have it they will look up inventory at other dealerships. If they don't have it either, you can order it from the factory (which takes 8-10 weeks).

Re: Hyundai Dealer + silly question about buying a car

I just bought a 2012 Elantra at the Hicksville Hyundai. LOVED the experience and the salesman I worked with, Barry.

The Hempstead location is closer to me, but all of the reviews I read online were terrible, while Hicksville got wonderful reviews.

The entire process was so simple, and Barry worked with me to get me a deal even better than I thought I would get. I originally wanted to lease, but he got me a price per month for buying that was way within my budget. My bank was offering a ridiculously low interest rate, which scared him at first since he knew I wouldn't go with the dealer's bank, but he was able to come back to me within a day with a rate that was even lower than my bank's. They also ended up offering me a lot more for my old car than they originally said in order to make the sale.

I love the dealer too. I go in for free car washes all of the time. For service you can get a manicure and massage while you wait too :)

I'm a fan of Hyundai in Hicksville.

They have a large inventory but if they don't have what you want, they will look for the car closeby.

Good luck!

Re: Hyundai Dealer + silly question about buying a car

I just bought a new car...the key is to try to buy the cars that are on their lot. If you take cars from the lot on the same day, they sometimes will reduce the price just to make the sale,

I went to 6 dealerships in NYC and Long Island to buy my car. I got a good deal because I played each dealer against each other...I was between Honda and Hyundai (went w Honda) and one dealership in Brooklyn had a red car on the lot, but the sales guy said, "if you take the car today, I will sell it to you for X." I took the specs from that car and drove to another dealership in Smithttown, and told the guy, "another Honda dealership in Brooklyn offered me X for the car, what can you do for me?"

I didn't have to haggle much. I got $1500 lower than the Brooklyn dealership...never be afraid to negotiate!!

Just want to mention that my MIL bought an Elantra and there is no spare tire- only a can of "fix-a-flat".

She ended up buying her own tire. Apparently, they don't normally include the spare b/c the weight effects the gas mileage.

Make sure you negotiate a spare when buying the car. Most people don't realize this and automatically assume a spare is included.

This is why I didn't go for the Sonata or Elantra. BMW's also have a similar deal - they call them a "run flat" tire because supposedly you can still drive a short distance with the flat tire until its replaced.

The run flat tires don't work for me, I've put about 3K miles on my new car and already got a flat tire. I would be livid if I didnt have a spare tire. The silly "Fix a Flat" container doesnt work if your tire hits a curb at such an angle that it punctures the sidewall completely (which is how my tire went flat in 5 seconds).

Re: Hyundai Dealer + silly question about buying a car

Just a warning. The tires on these Hyundais suck.

We blew a tire and had a nail in one that flattened it after 8K miles.

The dealer wanted $200 for the tire and I went to a tire dealer in Levittown and got it for $120.

On a positive note after the blown tire, they did tow it to the dealer for me. Not sure that's where it should have gone but within 20 miles they will tow it with their roadside assistance.

That was on Easter Sunday.

right now I'm a little miffed at Hyundai in Hicksville. Not such smooth sailing overall. The Elantra is a bit of a toy compared to some other compacts.

Choose wisely.

Wow the dealer wanted $ 200 for a tire? What a ripoff!! I had my flat tire 2 weeks ago, called AAA but my husband got there faster and put on a spare tire. The next day I went to Wal-Mart in Farmingdale - (Route 110) and got a new tire (16 inch alloy wheel) for $ 100.
Dealerships can really charge you an arm and a leg for basic services..I always am skeptical about their "free" services...Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

DH got his at Advantage in Hicksville too and they were great. He dealt with Rob. Some dealerships will trade with others for inventory, but some just wont. I found this issue with GMC a few years back.
