Channel 4 said 8 to 12 inches for tomorrow, with NYC being closer to the 12 inch mark.

I've learned not to get my hopes up over the years...it would be wonderful, but we've had some pretty big storms and DOE has remained open.

It looks pretty bad & the timing may be right. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I work on the island and although my school never closes, I feel really good about this one. It is perfect timing and we have 2 snow days built in to our calendar and we lose them if we dont use them, since it is March i think they are just gonna close to be safe.

I love snow days Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Is my husband the only one who doesn't like snow days? He doesn't like having to give up other days off.

With the NYS Math test this week I think it will have to be REALLY bad for NYC to close :(

Under normal circumstances I would love a snow day, but now it's closer to those breaks in the spring that I don't want to lose my 4 day weeekend in May!

With regard to the NYS Math, would it be a huge problem for it to be given on Tuesday instead? I think schools have some discretion with testing dates- my school moved the ELA back a day (we were supposed to start on 1/21 but because of the inaguration we started it on 1/22.)

If the weather's crappy, and a lot of kids are out, it will be a huge pain to administer all those make-ups. I really wonder what this storm is going to bring.

In my district (Nassau county), if we use a snow day, we get a day taken off our Memorial Day weekend. I, personally, would SO much rather having an extra day off when it it nice out, rather than being snowed in and having to shovel that crap.

I'm hoping we just have a delay.

We are not administering the Math exam tomorrow. It's Tues to Thurs. But I think with the exam the next day that the Chancellor won't want to close the schools. Just my opinion.

I'll probably have a snow day tomorrow, but I don't really know how I feel about it. I'm don't need one right now. That sounds stupid of me to say.

My husband works for the DOE and he said only if there's two feet of snow and then he'll still have to go in!...but maybe a delayed opening. Chat Icon ..How generous!

9/13/01 and the days of the transit strike were the only times that NYC has had delayed openings- I have been with the DOE since '96. It's all or nothing, which is annoying but at least if they close, they close.

Though being the &@^#^# that they are, they'd make the delayed opening for the kids and not the staff, which is what all the aforementioned delays were. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: How likely do you think a snow day tomorrow is? (esp. DOE teachers)

If it's really bad..it never matters but as far as the math test goes..if they don't know it now..tomorrow isn't going to make a difference..the mayor doesn't care about teachers who are not in Manhattan (the only borough that is cleaned thoroughly and has efficient public transit) so..as you can see, my hopes are up in the WAY back of my mind, but I'm never expecting a miracle...everyone be safe if we get what they say...

Agree...and considering state math tests start Tuesday I would definitely NOT count on it.
