Re: For those who did Cupcakes for a party (instead of a cake)?
I made Landon's cupcakes myself. It was so easy. They are not the best looking cupcakes but it was cheap and easy to do. I used the plastic wilton bags with metal tips.
These were for his 1st b-day. Some had dinosaur picks on top.

When is the party?? I am no pro but I may have time to make them for you. I made them for my DD's 1st birthday. I used pink and white frosting and piped them using the wilton bags and tip. Everyone kept saying how yummy they were and how pretty they looked. I can see if I can find a pic if you would like.
Wanted to add they had pretty sparkle on them and some had a flower in the middle!!!

Ok this is going to sound nuts. I went to Crumbs for my daughter's class party.
Yeah. They were more than $1/cupcake but they were a huge hit.
I have gone to Pathmark & they were fine. They did the cake - pull aparts. I think they were very inexpensive & they tasted fine. (Kids do actually prefer crappy cupcakes as opposed to Cupcake Cafe)
I've gone to Stop & Shop. They were definitely over $1 - in fact, I remember going back & forth because I was quoted a lower price & they insisted I was wrong.
edited to add: There is a huge baking supply company on 26th Street (Manhattan) ifyou want me to pick anything up.
I did have Waldbaums do Joseph's cupcakes & they were inexpensive. Then I added the silver balls on top to make them moon-like (Vanderbilt Planterium party)
Crumbs is awesome, but you must have been on crack to buy them from there! God, I put on 5 lbs just walkin' by that place.
And thank you for the offer in regards to the baking supply store.

Awww! Thank you for the sweet offer! I think I'm going to attempt to make these suckers myself. I'm going to experiment with the icing tonight and see if I can get that nailed down.
My plan was to keep them simple anyway, just icing with the crystal sugar edges. I figure they are what they are and my guests don't like 'em, they can bite me. (I don't think the kids will care either way what they look like. )
