Do you pay for your Office Holiday party?

It really depends. My old job we never paid. My current job we go out as a department, I work in a large hospital, and we pay ourselves.

Nope, we don't have to pay. We can bring our Significant Other. It's open bar and full sit down dinner at the Fox Hollow.

I never had to at previous jobs, but at my current job we pitch in $20, which is essentially to cover the open bar, since the Company won't pay for that. It is usually in a private room at a restaurant.

no we dont pay...... but our office doesn't do raises, and skipped the bonus......

I'd much rather them give me the money, then pay for a party

I work at a school and have always had to contribute to holiday parties. This week we had a pot luck lunch so technically you "pay" for that as well.

My DH works for a large company and he never has to pay for it.

Question for those who work at a school: Is it a bunch of people getting together or is it a school organized party? I think that could be the difference in who pays.

I have never paid for a holiday party (I don't work in a school).

If I had to pay you can bet your ass I wouldn't go.
I don't need to go that badly

Ours was company paid for- but it was also an event for our customers so we really were working the whole night- networking and chatting up our customers.

DH also works at a hospital. When he was a resident and fellow, he never paid but I'm fairly certain the doctors or medical reps paid for the residents.

We held a party at our house for DH's department. We covered the cost ourselves. There is no money in DH's hospital budget for parties. They are having a holiday potluck lunch this week. That is their holiday party.

This actually makes me sad. I work for the federal govt so there's really no holiday gatherings but when there have been, employees generally pay with supervisors adding a bit more. I would gladly pay if a party was organized but the work force is pretty scattered so it's hard.

It is organized but there is no budget for a Holiday party in a school. It is taxpayers money after all and the way they cut programs for arts, music, heck even math these days it wouldn't be right to pay for a Holiday party, any money there is should go to the kids not the staffs holiday party.

Re: Do you pay for your Office Holiday party?

At DH's company no one pays and it is quite an elaborate party! I'm a teacher and we just stared having a holidy party in my building a couple years ago and this year it is $50 pp. I'm going but not DH. A lot of people aren't going because of price though, but obviously the district wouldn't pay for us to party it up, especially on a school night Chat Icon

Do you pay for your Office Holiday party?

The last 4 years we didn't have to pay and we usually had a pretty nice party out at a bar or restaurant with food and open bar included. This year things changed drastically. We're now doing an in-office Holiday potluck where everyone has to bring something in. Company will provide alcohol. Lame.
