Office Holiday Party Question about children

If you are invited to your office holiday party and spouses are invited. Do you think its appropriate that employees ask to bring their kids with them?

What should the employer respond back with?

Re: Office Holiday Party Question about children

I would never assume or even think for a second children are invited.

Depending on the type of party, the employer can say it's an "adults only" party, due to alcohol, or just due to the kind of party they want to have, or they can say the guest list is limited.

The employer should just say this is an adult function, no kids allowed. Plain and simple.

Even being the kind of person that believes children should be included at weddings, I would NEVER think that it would be ok for an office party. If I was the employer, I would tell the employee that it is an adult only party.

Most companies don't even allow spouses these days in an effort to keep costs down.

Not sure why anyone would assume kids are invited.

Company picnic - yes
Holiday party - nope

Unless it is specifically stated on the invitation that kids are welcome, they aren't.

I think it's out of line to ask & would expect the response to be no.

Re: Office Holiday Party Question about children

If its an evening or night party, I think its odd someone would think their kids are invited. If its a day or afternoon party, I can see someone thinking its a possibility.

Re: Office Holiday Party Question about children

Absolutely not. When I think office holiday party, I think dinner and drinking and dancing and not a kid-friendly environment.

Same. At first when I read the OP I was like WHATTTTT?!?!?! Who in their right mind would ever think a child would be invited to an office holiday party?!?! Chat Icon

but then i remembered that OUR holiday party includes kids. BUT it's a brunch Chat Icon and OP didn't say if it's an evening party or not.

Exactly!!!

And at every company my DH worked for, spouses have never been invited.

The would never even think of asking to bring my kids.

Re: Office Holiday Party Question about children

It depends. I always went to my grandpa's and my parents. There was a Santa with gifts. My DH's company has a kids holiday party where spouses come and then a second one where it is just employees.

Then again, it depends on the locations. DH's old company had one when they moved back down to One World Financial after 9/11. It was sooo fancy. Not black tie.. but, almost. It was a moving "home" and holiday party and it was understood that kids didn't come.

Re: Office Holiday Party Question about children

Its an evening party, dinner, alcohol, etc

I don't think the person has a babysitter.
But i responded that it would be adults only.
The party is not until mid December

Thanks for all the advice.

Things can get a little rowdy at these things
