Funny you should ask this... I was just coming on here to post about an issue we are having with our dog related to this...

The answer for us is not anymore, as of a couple of months ago. And we are paying for kicking her out of the "den".

She sleeps in our bedroom yes, but not on our bed. She sleeps on the floor, either on my side or on Kevin's side.

He sleeps in his crate next to our bed.

Our little guy sleeps on the bed with us. He is like a little person. But our big guy has his dog bed next to my side of the bed and his crate is left open at night so he switches between the crate or his bed. Whatever his mood is he switches throughout the night.

Our dog is still a puppy and rather tiny, so she sleeps in our bed curled up next to one of us:
1. I got tired of not sleeping for 1 month when we had her down in the crate.
2. She sleep a whole lot longer with us, than without us.
3. She'll go on the floor once we know she won't have any accidents.

The reason I ask is this, The trainer said to stop Tiny from sleeping with us at night. He says it is a way of Tiny dominating us.

Danielle and I like when Tiny sleeps with us, but last night I figured we would just let him sleep downstairs, and not 5 minutes after we went to Bed tiny came scratching on the door and crying. I felt so bad I let him in and he slept peacefully the whole night in between us.

Do you think I should do what the trainer says about this?

Like I said...to a dog, getting kicked out of the den is a big deal... not being allowed to sleep with the rest of the pack... I don't know how it's a domination thing

If all he's doing is crying and scratching, and he's still a puppy, I would say listen to your trainer so you don't end up with the problems that we have for kicking her out of our bedroom later in life.

I dont know about the dominating thing and I dont think I would listen to it. We tried getting our dog out of the bed when we had him trained too but it didnt work. He would cry, keep us up at night, etc, and we just said forget it. Now....

Our dogs sleep with us if they want to. My boy dog used to every night, but recently he prefers staying downstairs or in his own bed. We do leave our door open in case they want to come in at night though, and sometimes they do.

She use to sleep with us. But for such a small dog, she would take up a lot of room. So I stopped it. She cried for a few nights, but now sleeps on a pillow on the floor.

Charlie sleeps in the bed with us. I love it.

Our dogs sleep in the bedroom with us, but not in the bed.
Jessi is usually under the bed, Riley is in the crate and Morgan sleeps on the doggie bed.
once and a while she will jump into bed with us, which is ok, since she is small and loves to snuggle

Marley sleeps in her crate next to our bed. We tried to have her sleep in her crate in the living room where she spends the day, but she used to cry all night long. She loves her crate and walks in and waits for DH while he washes his face before bed

I have 2 Pomeranians they both sleep with us.

She sleeps in her crate in the kitchen. Every now and then she will sleep with us but she seems to prefer her crate.

Unfortunetely yes....100lbs of flesh between us. And now that we have a KING size bed , he is beyond happy.

Of course! Both of them! - about 180-190 lbs of dog between the two of them.

Funny story - I grew up with dogs my whole life - German Shepherds - they always slept in my bed..

When DH and I got Zoey (Rottie - the first dog) - he told my Dad the dog would not sleep in the bed. My Dad laughed at him and said, "yeah? Good luck with that!". Of course, about 5 days later Zoey was in bed (we adopted her when she was 2 years old).
She loves to get under the covers between the two of us!

When I lived at home she slept with me, now that I moved out she sleeps with my parents or my sister and they love it. They fight over who gets her every night and she goes right under the covers with her head on a pillow!
