Do you know anyone who still uses a beeper?
I saw a man with one (in addition to a cell phone) on my way to work this morning.
Why would anyone still need one, with everything that cell phones do?

My husband does!
He is fully aware that he looks like a drug dealer from 1989, but that's what his job uses for the IT staff.
ETA--He also has a cell phone for personal use.

my hubby (a dentist) carries one for his patients if they call the office on emergency (the # is on the answering machine)...he doesn't want to give them his cell phone #

My uncle does. He has a beeper & a cell phone. He puts down tiles, etc. and does not want all his customers calling on his cell phone.

at my job technical folk still use pagers. they get pages when something goes down...i.e a server or something.

My husband still has one, he has a technical job and if he is called out (like in the middle of the night) they have to be able to reach him in many different ways...he has a 45 minute respond time
but they usually reach him by mobile first..

I know plenty of people who do. In the environment that I work in, sometimes you can't take a cell phone into a building/area but you can take an approved pager (security reasons).

I work for a hospital, and most of the medical staff (all doctors), have beepers.
Cell phones are not allowed in hospitals.

My Dad.
He owns a laundromat, the employees are sketchy, and he doesn't want to give them his cell number or worse, our home number.
If he gives them a beeper number, they can contact him when they need him, but when they're fired for stealing/breaking things/bopping their BFs in the back room, they can't harass him.
