Um yes. We always have alcohol available as do all my friends and family unless it's at a kids place of.course, like a chuck e cheese. After 4pm on halloween a the adults were walking around with beers. Didn't think anything of it.

Chuck E Cheese has beer now. I guess they have a large audience for it, which I assume are parents.

Do you drink at kid events/parties?

DH and I always have a drink when we go out to dinner with our DS. At family parties, everyone always drinks as well. I never thought too much about it as my parents always did the same. If I'm of erred a drink at someone's house, I'll usually accept. I don't really drink at home too much, but enjoying having one when we're out socially.

Yes, I drink whenever there is alcohol at a party. And with our circle of friends, there's pretty much always a cooler of beer at a kids party. And I also drank while TOTing. All of the people I was with had to-go cups and we sa tons of other parents with red solo cups. I honestly don't see the problem.

I don't get the TOTing and drinking, honestly. Why can't a bunch of parents with kids go for an hour without hauling around drinks?

Isn't it illegal to walk around with an open alcoholic beverage?

I asked my SO for you. He said that the open container is a town code violation and a summons. So, a ticket. The more illegal aspect that could get a person actually arrested is if they get drunk and can't properly supervise their children. Then that is disorderly conduct, public intoxication, endangering the welfare of a child... Those sort of charges.

HTH!

Open containers of alcohol in public are illegal yes. (Pretty much everywhere except Vegas!). But I.doubt it's ever enforced in a neighborhood on Halloween. Cops really don't have the bandwidth for that on Halloween I don't think.

Yes, absolutely drink around DD or when friends are all together. Are we getting shitfaced and puking? No. We are enjoying ourselves on the weekend. Work hard all week, we enjoy a few drinks when we get together with everyone AND OUR KIDS.

Re: Do you drink at kid events/parties?

I drink at all home parties, if offered, and the such. Every play date, of course not, but if it is a few moms together, and not 11am, we usually break out the wine. We drank Halloween, not at all drunk, but we were all walking and knew all the homeowners who were also having drinks. It was just a fun time. I bring him to St. Patrick's Day Parade, and obviously we are no where near drinking like we used to, but we are having a few beers. We can walk everywhere in this town lol. My son knows what wine is, doesn't think anything of it, and certainly doesn't relate it to being drunk.

I grew up where I can't recall a kids party that did'NT have alcohol. That's how I grew up. This is why I don't invite kids from my sons class to any parties I throw for his bday. I don't want to worry about judgements like these. I keep it friends & family.

They were serving beer and wine when I worked there when I was 16 (it was my first job).

To answer the question, DH and I will have a drink at children's parties. The only time I don't is if it's a pool party because I get nervous with DS in the water. I feel like my focus needs to be completely on him when a pool is involved.

crashing, I agree, I dont see the need to walk around drinking. I also don't remember my mother and her friends ever drinking when they were spending the afternoon as a group w kids.

I might be living under a rock as one poster stated bc I am not a drinker and would find it odd as well.

Big difference having a drink at a dinner/BBQ then walking around drinking imo

I wanted to add, the size of one glass/cup of wine leads people to believe they are only drinking 1-2, but those drinks usually equal 3-4. Solo cups have lines on them for a reason and each line represents an amount.

realistically, people are drinking a lot more than they think

This is not a judgement at all but I have a question. Will you ever invite friends from school?

I should have but this in my original post because I think there is a huge difference in a party where you invite school friends and one where you have your close friends and family. I was referring more towards school parties, school play dates with parents you don't really know more than I was refereing to a backyard barb-q with close friends.

To a bday party that is in a house or rented place.. No, I wouldn't invite his school friends. I would keep it close friends & family. To be honest my family/friend would be like WTF if they came to a house party with no drinks.

obviously a Bounce house or party like that I wouldn't expect liquor there, but I don't throw those kind of parties!

Re: Do you drink at kid events/parties?

We have a couple of friends from school that we've become close with and spend a lot of time with so at those parties I'm comfortable having a drink. At a party where I didn't know the parents I won't drink.

I get what your saying. We usually do parties out but the one time we had a party in the yard we didn't provide alcohol as I didn't think it was necessary for a kids party.

I do find that people who don't drink or don't drink often just don't understand the mentality of us drinkers. I don’t say this with any disrespect or snark to non drinkers at all. It's just an observation.
My DH is not a big drinker at all. And he doesn't understand my love of a glass of wine at night or at a business dinner and doesn't understand how when we go out to eat I sometimes look forward to the wine or cocktails more than the food.
It's just not something he can appreciate and I get that. Just like I can't appreciate how some people love running or working out all the time because I don't do it and never have.
Everyone has their things. And it's hard to get the appeal of things sometimes if it's not your bag.
I also think a lot has to do with how you were raised. My parents and their friends drank all the time...they still do...so to me that is the norm. DH's parents were not drinkers so he wasn't exposed to that.

You don't have to "get" it. The question was asked and I answered honestly. If it's not for you, then that's fine. But I was with a big group of people and it was just as much a fun time for the parents as the kids. So in my mind, it was a win-win.

I also think it's good for kids to see healthy, social drinking. Not all out sloppy drunk, but kids model what they see, and if they see what it's like to have a drink or two and be social and happy, that's a good thing
