Do any other mommies feel like they can't keep up with a hobby?

I just started reading "Eat, Pray, Love" - and I can't keep motivated to read the book - everytime i start something I feel like I can't finish it because I have so much else to do around the house, with the kids that I am mentally and physically exhausted to even sit around and read or do anything for myself.

Going to the gym has been a struggle for me for months. How do you mommies try and keep yourselves motivated to do something for yourselves?

I have a 5 yr old and almost 3 year old and I sometimes feel like things are just getting busier and busier.

I think part of my problem is that im a SAHM and don't ask anyone for help. Its almost like im defeating myself asking or trying to get help with the kids thus leaving me with little time for myself.

Any ideas for keeping motivated?

I won't lie, my DH pushes me a lot to keep doing for myself. I felt really bad about the way my body looked after #2, I really wanted to get back to the gym but was convinced there was no time, my DH encouraged me and now that I am going and in the swing of it, there is no way I will stop. I look forward to getting out of the house by myself and feel better about myself. For me it was getting started with something I really enjoy, once I did that it was fine.

Yes, I absolutely have no time to myself. Photography is my thing. Luckily it's something i can do with DS in tow - in fact DS IS my photography hobby at the moment! Chat Icon But I stay motivated by looking at professional photos, hoping to one day do that myself.

But, yep, reading is pretty much impossible these days! even if I can find time to read a few chapters, by the time i can pick up the book again, I'll have forgotten it all! Chat Icon

One thing that could help--with the gym I go at a set time on set days, so my DH knows he is in charge of the boys and is on his own. Maybe set a specific time each week that is your time to do what you want.

I do get to the gym but I use the daycare. If I had to do it at night no way would it happen.
Reading never happens. I have so many books piled up to read.
I have more scrapbooking supplies than I know what to do with.
So to answer your question....yes.

I only have 1 and I honestly only started breathing since DS started preschool this September.

Now I have time to clean the house, do errands, I started horseback riding again.

I read after DS goes to bed. While DH watches TV. I could clean my house 24/7. At some point during the day, I have to stop and breathe.

YES!!!!! DH was trying to get me to do stuff yesterday. Last night I literally did not sit down until 9pm and when I did, it was to grade papers. I would like to know at what part of my day would he like me to ad in this "hobby"
He even pffered to get me a personal trainer but I just dont have the time or I could make time but my house would be dirty, I would be fired from my job, fail out of grad school...u get the idea

I've been knitting a scarf since DS was born, I'm half-ways away from it being done.

Pre-DS, it would have been a weekend project.

I still don't get a lot done around the house Chat Icon
