Did you teach your kid to not get out of bed till a certain time

I know I'm probably reaching here but maybe, just maybe this will work.

I bought Jack a spaceship clock for Christmas, and it shows the time on the ceiling. My plan is to write "6:00" on a piece of paper next to the clock and tell him to NOT get out of bed until that time.

If that works I will slowly increase. I will also tell him that for every five days he does it right he will get a piece of chocolate.

Does this sound like it may work?

Can you tell I'm desperate?!

I say try it but reward each day with a sticker. At the end of five days, he can turn it in for a candy.

Reinforce frequently and it will usually work

I think its a great idea!

I did...we told her she couldn't come out of her room until it was light out....

Oh, if it works then that'll be great.

My friend tells her DD who gets up very early that she can't get out of bed till the sun is up and shining in the room. Not just a little. LOL

She only sleeps late on weekday mornings...

I tried teaching him to look at the clock and not come out until it starts with a 7 but no luck yet

We also tried not until it's light out but it didnt work much better (maybe bc he has blackout panels )

my mom taught my brother with a light on a timer. When the light went on, he could get outta bed.

it worked with a rewards system. he got a cookie for dessert or chocolate milk with breakfast every day he did it.

I think it could work! I remember someone on here posting that they had a stoplight clock and when it was red DC knew not to get out of bed, when it turned green they knew it was time to get up. I made a mental note when I read that post that I might need one of those clocks in the future Good luck!

I taught DS that he has to stay in his room until the first number on his clock is 7. Most days it works!

It might work, but we taught Noah how to turn the TV on, and we leave the kids channel on, and he goes downstairs on his own, turns the tv on and watches it for an hour or so before coming to get us. IT WORKS!!!

My sons (5.5 yrs and 3) have had clocks in their rooms from somewhere between 2.5-3yrs of age and know if they get up before a certain time they have to try to go back to sleep. It is rare call for us before the time they are suppose to (actually my kids don't ever get out of their beds - they always call for us). I have been lucky with it. I have had to adjust the time earlier and earlier for my older son as the years have gone one. At one time it was 9am (and he started with a clock with hands at around 2.5 - we have moved to digital since)!! Now it is after 7am - it is suppose to be 730am but with him starting kindergarten this year he does have to be up around 730ish and he now gets up anywhere between 710-720 (although his bedtime has gotten earlier and earlier to compensate).

My younger son knows the first number on his clock has to be a 7 - although we have his clock set 10 minutes later than the real time so the earliest he is allow to get up is really 710am. The only issue is sometimes I don't know what time they really did get up and sometimes esp my younger one may not call me when he should. Like this morning he needed a tissue and I think he sat there waiting until the clock hit 7 to ask for one - instead of getting it and falling back to sleep.

Diana... i too was dealing with an early riser.. I bought DD this...she now knows she cant get out of bed until the light is green.... (unless she has to go potty) and then she has to go back to her room,,, she plays in there under she sees the light...works GREAT!!!

josh can't get up till the sun is out.

but my neice is trained to get up at 7. my sister bought a huge wall clock and put a sun on the 7. when it points to the sun, then she can get up

I would get an alarm clock and set it to 6:15 and when it rings then he can come out of his room.
Then instead of chocolate (you know you are gonna eat it ) Do a sticker chart for 5 days and pick out a character sticker he likes. Then after the 5 days take him to do something that you normally don't do. For me, DS likes to play in the McDonald's playroom but I save it for rainy days when they behave.
