Daycare Vent...

So I LOOOOOOVE my daycare, but this week is NOT their week and I don't know where to go from here...

Yesterday Bella fell and got a bloody lip...totally fine and happens to anyone, but we didn't find out until DH went to pick her up and then only saw the accident report because he had to wash his hands. No one seemed t know anything about it...the office, the girl her was signing her out from, no one...I called to leave a message for the owners to speak to them on the morning after DH filled me in and the girl in the office STILL had NO idea what I was talking about AND blamed it on the day teachers.

Now, this is an ongoing thing. Most teachers are scheduled from 7-4 and then they have college-age girls come in from 4-7, fine...but I think her level of care is suffering. They play TOTAL dumbazz when asked any questions about the day.

Then I realized this morning that they sent her home with the WRONG binky, for the second time this year. This is BEYOND unacceptable to me and I am soooo upset. They even put her name on it!!!! I mean, cmon.

I talked to one of the owners this morning and I was so irate. She was contrite and promised to speak to the night girls...whatever...

Then the other owner answered the phone when I called to check in and got VERY defensive with me, to the point where I was like, "Um, I am at work and I can't get into this right now..."

I am beyond upset and of course feeling very guilty as a ft working
mom...

what would you be feeling/do?
what should I do?

I am a preschool teacher and I used to teach daycare..I had the 2 year olds...and I have to say, you have EVERY right to be very upset! This is unaccepetable and I would be just as livid as you..I also would expect a parent to be upset if those things did happen. Make sure you make it known that you are not happy! I am sorry this is happening! Chat Icon

Kelly I would be very upset too! Its not right that no one notified you ASAP after Bella got hurt, and to bring home the wrong binky twice, I would be so pi$$ed off, that's how germs get spread. Sorry you had to go through that. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I would be upset too. Every time a child gets hurt at my job I personally call the parents so they know exactly what happened.

I would be very upset too - Chat Icon

I had a similar incident with my DD's daycare - she choked on a piece of food, the owner of the daycare had to stick her finger's down DD's throat - DD threw up as a result. When I went to pick her up the owner wasn't there, just the night helper. She told me DD spit up. Next day I get a call saying that the owner forgot to tell the night helper to tell me.... whatever.

Like you, I understand that things happen - Your DD could have split her lip anywhere - Just like my DD could have choked on food in my own kitchen - It really is about how daycares handle these incidents.... You absolutely should have been told as soon as the accident happened - and there is no excuse for attitude when you call to discuss your child's saftey.

Re: Daycare Vent...

Just wanted to add to this because I struggle with this myself.

Doesn't anybody worry about complaining to daycare?

When I have an issue I choose my words very carefully so I don't make anybody mad. Actually, I usually have dh do it because he is calmer and nicer then I am.

The reason I feel this way is because I don;t want to make the people who care for my daughter all day angry, I want them to like us so they don't take it out on her. Because she can't talk yet, I have no idea what goes on when I am not there. Not that I would think they would treat her badly, but I want her to be their favorite if possible. Does that make sense?

Sorry for my tangent- I would be mad about those things too BTW.

I only worry about complaining about a specific person.

Re: Daycare Vent...

Lemme tell you --- I'd be freakin ****** off if my daughter came home with someone else's pacifier.

I would definately call and speak with the owner ... but do it nicely....something like I want to tell you that I love the daycare, and I rave to people about it all the time, but I was extremely disappointed with some things that happened the other day. I'm telling you so that you can make sure it doesnt happen again and maintain the high level of care that you've provided to DD in the past...

Just to make you feel a bit better. I worked for a daycare center for like 5 years when I was in college. I absolutely LOVED working with the little ones and wish they paid more because I would have never left. We had some PAINNNN parents that used be VERY picky and rude about their children and I can honestly say NONE of the people working there would ever, ever, ever take it out on the kids at all. At least where I worked, it was like a totally separate thing... so I wouldnt worry.

BTW...That is TOTALLY unacceptable and I would complain too!

Re: Daycare Vent...

I'd be upset too. We had the binky thing happen too but none of them had the kid's name so we couldnt be that upset with them.
