No flu shot, and I haven't gotten the flu... yet... but I also don't live on LI so I don't know how much it is spreading up here.

DH and I did not get the shot, DS did.
DS either got the flu or that fever virus that is going around but DH and I were fine. I got a cold/cough only.

Re: Curious: The Flu
Yes flu shot, no flu.
I've posted this before on another thread, but I can't think of any reason why someone wouldn't get the flu shot. If someone had a bad experience with it in the past either a) they were already sick and the flu shot made it worse because the body can't fight 2 things like that at a time. Or b) the had a reaction from the mercury in the shot and in the future should get the one with no mercury.
The only reaction at the majority of people have is a little soreness at the injection site.
To me the end justifies the means.

Can't think of any reasons? There are valid concerns that people have with vaccines, especially flu shots.
Below..I am posting a recent article about links to the swine flu shot (not the regular flu that we are talking about on this thread, AND not the vaccine for swine flu that was given in the US).. very serious reactions that they are now linking to the swine flu shot that was quickly produced and given to the public.
Vaccines absolutely have some serious chemicals in them, and so for many people, the flu shot is not one they feel it's worth taking. I got the flu shot one time and I was literally feverish for about 2 mths, with a low grade fever. I will never ever get it again, nor will I give it to my DC.
And with the mass hysteria 2 years ago re the swine flu, I reluctantly gave my DC one vaccine of the two part series and will NEVER do that again for something like the flu, which generally most people recover just fine from. And the article I am posting makes TOTAL sense to me, and I seriously believe the link.
So in my home, we will never take flu shots going forward. I will take the risk in this case, b/c I think the vaccine alone has a risk attached (just as your risk of getting the flu, and then dying from the flu).

I'd rather not inject additives, preservatives and adjuvants directly into my bloodstream. Plus, there are no studies/testing (that I'm aware of) indicating that repeated exposure to the flu shot does not increase your chances of developing chronic illness later in life.

Re: Curious: The Flu
DH, DD and I all declined the flu shot and none of us got the flu. DH even works in a hospital and still didn't catch a thing.
I like to think we live in a bubble, because none of us have even had a runny nose in YEARS.
I probably just jinxed myself.

Here's my theory on "everyone has the flu this year"
(I think I posted this over on parenting, too)
Some people legit had the flu, but....
I think some people are not going to doctor and self-diagnosing and saying they have the flu. Can't tell you how many people had a simple cold and said, "Oh man..hope I don't have the flu!" Add all of the above to flu-related Facebook statuses and you have a recipe for everyone claiming to have the flu.
I think only 1 person had the flu out of all my coworkers, friends, and family.
I think of the Swine Flu. "Everyone" seemed to have the swine flu, too.
All the media-created panic doesn't help, either.
I didn't get the shot and didn't get the flu.
My brother went to the clinic yesterday with some flu symptoms and some bronchitis symptoms. He gets bronchitis 4-6 times a year. The dr looked at him and said you have the flu! No flu test. He has a low grade fever Never went over 100.8. Some aches. Some chills. And a bad cough! No sore throat. His O2 sat was 94. He got Tamiflu and prednisone. I think drs are just saying it is the flu now!!! He didn't get a flu shot. Myself, my husband, and son got our flu shots. My mom just got hers last week..

This pretty much sums up why I don't bother with the flu shot nicely.
To add.. when and if someone tells me that the shot is close to 100% safe AND near 100% effective, I'll be happy to add it to my regular rotation. At this juncture I don't personally feel that it's necessary for myself or my kids. If any of us had compromised immune systems I'd absolutely reconsider.. but at this point I feel it's best to let our bodies do their jobs.
I don't have any issues with anyone who DOES decide the flu shot is best for them.. to each his/her own!
ETA: I did not have the flu shot and neither did the boys. Rob had the flu shot (he gets it every year). He is the only one in the house who had the flu this year. I was shocked because as soon as he got sick I figured it would run through the whole house.. but we lucked out!

Uhhh, the above. Do a little research on the flu vaccine, you may think a little differently, or maybe not. The flu vaccine hasn't been around all that long....maybe when it's around 50+ years I'll change my mind. But it is a personal choice. I had the flu this year and it s#cked, but it was also the first time ever in my life. My Dr. also supports my decision.

Re: Curious: The Flu
DH, DS and I did not get the flu shot. DS got the flu (diagnosed with a nose swab from the dr). Was on tamiflu and it lasted 4 days. DH and I also went on tamiflu as a precaution. I don't mind other vaccines, but to me, the flu is like russian roulette. It MAY prevent you from getting a STRAIN of the flu. There is no reason to yearly inject myself/family with something that may or may not prevent something else. Other vaccines, while controversial, are also tried and true, which is why I have no problem giving it to myself/family!

Re: Curious: The Flu
No shot, no flu BUT a really bad cold and an ear infection.
ODD no shot and yes got the flu and the stomach virus
YDD no shot, no flu but a semi bad cold
DH no shot, no flu but got the stomach virus.
We are a mess over here. This is the only year that I didn't make everyone get the flu shot and we are all sick. Never again.

The flu shot gets injected directly into one's bloodstream?
ETA: what do you mean by "there are no studies/testing (that I'm aware of) indicating that repeated exposure to the flu shot does not increase your chances of developing chronic illness later in life"? I'm not trying to be snarky, I'm literally not following what you're getting at, would you mind rephrasing it?
