Buying a new car...

I need a 4-door car since I am due in June. I am looking at mini SUVs & cross-overs. I have been driving a 2-door honda civic for the last 8 years.

Any suggestions?
Where to start?
What to avoid?

Thanks Ladies Chat Icon

I'd start with the Honda CRV, Toyota RAV4 or Highlander, depending on the size you want and your budget. The Hyundai Sante Fe is nice too. I'd do a ton of research online before you step foot in a dealership. You can find so much online these days. Look on kelleybluebook (kbb.com) to find the "blue book value." Decide what options you want, then price out the vehicle and know what YOU want to pay before you talk to a salesperson. Then go test drive. Ask everyone you know if they had a good/bad experience at a dealership. I found a really excellent dealer/salesman through word of mouth and had an amazing experience.

Good luck! Happy shopping. Chat Icon

ETA: Are you open to pre-owned? I had a really good experience with my last car, a Nissan Maxima that we still own. I bought it off of a lease -- it was 3 years old, low mileage and have had a really excellent experience. As long as you buy a "quality" car that is known for being good in the long haul (hondas, toyotas, nissans,) you can't go wrong. (jmo) Chat Icon

Re: Buying a new car...

LOVE my toyota RAV 4!! its roomy, but not too big that i feel like i'm driving a boat... i have the 4 cylinder, and its got plenty of pick up. i get about 23, 24 mpg in town, which isn't bad for an SUV.... its VERY comfortable to drive. i'm barely 5 feet, and my DH is over 6 feet... we're both comfortable driving it.
i got the "limited" package, so it has sunroof, remote start, 6 disc CD changer, auto temperature control... i paid about $25,000 for it in 2006.
we don't have kids yet, so i dont know how carseats fit in there.. but i would imagine it would be fine. have fun!!

I agree, DH bought his 2yr old Honda CR-V from a dealership and it had only 13K miles. 8yrs later it's still going.

We rented a Ford Edge once and really liked it. DH prefers foreign cars, but said he'd actually get one.

Re: Buying a new car...

DH has a Jeep Liberty and it is a great size for the baby and all the baby stuff.

I have a Mazda 6 (4 door) and love my car. When I got this car, I wanted a cool car yet one that would fit a baby comfortably because we were about to TTC when I bought it. The trunk is very roomy and the car seat fits nice in the back. Its a little easier to take the baby and stuff in and out of the SUV because you don't have to bend over, but my car otherwise is just fine.

In July, I leased a 2008 Honda Accord 4-door. This is my second Accord and I love it. They are safe, reliable and great on gas.

We have a Hyundai Tuscon and we love it. It is a little cheaper than some of the other smaller SUVs and really cute.

We have an 07 left over. We love our Endeavor. It is a great truck. If you do get one go to Wantagh Mitsubishi and ask for Leo. He was a great salesman. There is no pressure at this dealership and the service department is excellent too

My parents have, I want to say an 01. They have the very first year that it came out. We love it and can't wait to get it. I will def. look at the Wantagh dealership. We live two towns over so it is really close to us. Thanks. :)

Same here - I love that it has the height of an SUV (easier to get the baby in and out) and the AWD, but drives like a car.

I also test drove the Rav4 and the CRV, but we liked the Forester best.
