About 1700 in a really good neighborhood in Nassau. And its because we took ownership of my husbands parents home that had a reverse mortgage. It was the only way we could afford a home in NY. My friends in NC pay 800 and they have a much bigger house than us. Personally, i would leave NY in a heartbeat but we cant. The houses they make down there are better construction than houses in NY.

We’re looking in SC and the prices for the houses are rediculously low! Huge houses with huge properties. If u look at the taxes, ur heart would skip a beat...in a good way!

$2174 which includes our home insurance. I pay our home insurance on our own every quarter. It's not rolled into our mortgage.

You're lucky. Most mortgages don't let you separate.
Wish they did.

When we refinanced a few years ago with the same bank, they said they'd no longer escrow our insurance. Wasn't even an option.

Yup- TFCU doesn't escrow homeowners.

when i lived in the north east, my mortgage payment was about $3,100.

my XH pushed me into a mortgage i was against. zero down... 100% financing. of course, we had PMI, this also included our homeowner's insurance.

Re: Average mortgage payment?

When we lived on the island in Stony Brook we had put 0% down but interest rates were AWFUL at that time since it was right before the crazy market crash. Our mortgage payment with taxes ($11K) and homeowners was about $4K/month.

We're in NJ now (bigger, more expensive house than our NY home) and with taxes ($16K/yr) and homeowners we pay $4666/mon. We got a TON more house and property than we had in NY for not that much more money because interest rates were crazy awesome when we bought the house this year.

ETA - Both 30 year mortgages. With this new house we are paying extra to principal.
