Yes, but in this instance, the NYPD and medical examiner's office would have to be planting evidence. We've always known that they had DNA from the crime. Lewis's DNA was found under her nails, on her back, and on her cell phone.
He also sought medical attention the day after her murder, claiming he'd been attacked. Based upon the information provided immediately following her rape and murder, we knew it was highly likely her murderer had some type of injuries as a result of her fighting him off.
This. NYPD can't win lol
These conspiracy theories are insane.
Let's not martyr the NYPD just yet. all I am saying is I hope they did everything on the up and up and they do indeed have the correct perpetrator. That's not an unreasonable request, is it?
I'm not making anyone a martyr. But I do have faith in the NYPD and think it's crazy that as soon as this guy got caught these crazy theories arise. And the question of how they caught him imo are really unfair

This forum can't help itself! DNA doesn't lie. There is nothing fishy here - excellent work by the NYPD.
This is actually symptomatic of this whole board. It is so liberal that even if someones DNA is found on a dead body and in a crime scene, and the person was placed at the crime scene acting suspiciously, going all the way back to 2014 when the police first received complaints about him in the area, it still can't mean he's guilty! Has to be a setup by the NYPD. Come on already!
LOL we all know I am not liberal. But there are so many odd variables to the crime. Lewis is probably guilty but I can see why some people say he is not. Because like I said, this was off from the start.

In regards to her father being "connected". If that were the case, they wouldn't have killed his daughter. They would have killed him. And if they did kill his daughter, it wouldn't have been in that manner. It would have been a message killing... one shot.

Agree. I honestly don't really care how they got a confession either. DNA doesn't lie. This animal did it. He brutally murdered an innocent young women and now will be locked up and no longer a danger to any of your daughters or sisters. Thank you NYPD!

The details on how they came across this guy seem kind of sketchy to me. He lived in the area, had several summonses for thing in and around the park, and went to a local hospital the day after the murder with an injury? and yet it took this long to single him out?
I am glad they have someone though and the DNA doesn't lie.

Those are good points. And just to play devils advocate - DNA is DNA, but the questions remains how it got there in the first place.

...just like the ONE time someone leaves their doors unlocked, they get robbed. Or the ONE time they leave their kid alone in a store, etc. , they get kidnapped. That's usually the way it works. Safety in numbers...if she was alone...crime of opportunity.

Those are good points. And just to play devils advocate - DNA is DNA, but the questions remains how it got there in the first place.
There were reports that showed him in that area before. More than once
And how the Dna got where? Under her nails? On her phone?

I don't find it "sketchy." This is exactly how crimes are solved and the reason why having knowledgable, experienced detectives is so important. David Berkowitz (Son of Sam) was finally found (identified) because of a parking ticket.

So two things I read. This guys dad said he was robbed twice and beat up so bad he was in the hospital, he definitely looks off. I wonder if he has a brain injury or something from the attacks, no excusing him he should be hung and shot - but thinking wtf possessed this?
And second her dad called police friend at 545pm and they have video of her alive then jogging. The dad had a bad feeling before she was killed. That effing breaks my heart! And this is why I am a paranoid person who obsessively locks my doors and sleeps w a mini bat next to my bed, extra key fob w the panic button too.

Stories like this are so horrible. It's hard to accept that such a violent act could be random, because then we have to acknowledge that it could happen to anyone at any time. I don't think the arrest is fishy, and I hope that her family gets some closure.

Some people are just over paranoid. It's possible he always jogged with her because he feared her jogging alone so the one time she does it he is freaking out the whole time that something will happen.

I don't know nearly enough about the case to make a decision (which is why a murder suspect is given a trial in a courtroom where people present facts and evidence, question the witnesses, etc rather than judge based on google and message board chatter). That said, if the DNA matches that's usually a sign that they have the right person. I hope that is true here, and it seems like the police did a great job -- I wasn't expecting this to get solved.

I think that you don't want to believe this really happens. There always has to be a "reason". No. There are just sick people out there. I also agree he "looks" like he's not all there. It could just be his face. He could have been high or something when taken into custody. We really don't know all of it.

I found two things off:
1- That the father ran with her all the time and tells her not to run that path
2- There's a search for her, cops and friends everywhere and the father finds her.
That stuck out for me. The father is panicking, calling for a search for his daughter and he's the one that found her. on the route he told her the stay away from.
