I don't think they are trashy at all. We had one at my parents house for years, then they put in a inground pool. The inground pools are very expensive, so I see now problem in have an above ground if you can't afford it.

DH wants one. I don't like them at all and for the most part don't find them aesthically pleasing unless it's with a deck attached to a house.
DH knew this was going to be a problem after the bottled beer debacle. I think bottled beer looks trashy at black tie events.
If it is surrounded by a deck and attached to the house than I think that looks nice. I don't like it when they are in the middle of the backyard with a ladder attached to it. DH's parents had one like that.
Now there is nothing wrong with bottle beer at black tie events. Canned beer however is always trashy.

When I went to NC to look at houses they thought the same thing. I thought that was weird that you weren't allowed to have an above ground pool!
I don't think they are trashy but I don't want any pool in my backyard until my son is much older do to safety concerns.
These new developments have all sorts of weird rules.

I don't think they are trashy and if I were to have a pool I would prefer an above ground, An in-ground pool would make me so nervous - I'd worry about young kids getting/falling in it when I am not around.

I think anywhere south of Virginia... Most people have IG pools. Do I think it's trashy OF COURSE NOT but... if you grew up and are use to people having IG pools you might think differently.
BTW some people might take the "mcmansion" comment as being rude.

Seriously? Whoever does can take it up with me, I have no problem with that. Referring to a large house on a small lot as a mcmansion is certainly not an insult, nor was it intended to be one.

In New York we have had above ground. In florida in ground only. I don't see any big deal with above ground pools.

Because she does not like it does not make it "trashy".
You could have nice AG pool with nice decking and landscaping and on the other hand you could have a dirty/dingy/old/not maintained IG pool. The IG would be trashy to me.
Just because she does not like it, that does not mean somebody else does not either. Different taste for everyone. But telling to someone their pool is trashy makes HER a trashy person.
Another reason to have an AG pool... kids safety!!!!

What an ignorant comment... I grew up with an IG pool at home, and it was just as cool as having an AG pool.
Does the person who said this even have a pool at all now? Maybe she's just JEALOUS. I can't stand jealous people

I agree.
i think they look better with a nice deck around them, but on a hot day- a pool is a pool.
But, i don't think that i would want one for my house.

WHAT does that have to do with Jealousy?!  Honestly, i never understand these comments. Yes, she sounded snooty, but i don't get how someone's dislike for something is always because of 'jealousy'

I guess I grew up trashy. My parents still have the above ground pool in their yard. My father built a beautiful patio around it, added flowers and plants and it looks Great.
