Above ground pools....trashy????

A coworker made a comment about a neighbor putting up an above-ground pool and thought it was so trashy.......I've been to her house, it's in a subdivision (your typical "mcmansion" -- tiny, tiny property). It's a decent neighborhood, nothing extravagant.

What do you think of her comment? I've seen pools with nice decking around it and never thought it was trashy at all.....

ETA: I told her that I thought her comment was "snooty". We're friends, so I can get away with that! Chat Icon

what a pompous comment.

There are some very nice above ground pools.

Let her give them the money for an inground if she's so snooty!

Re: Above ground pools....trashy????

Well I guess I'm "trashy" because I had an above ground pool for most of my life. In fact, my whole neighborhood is trashy!

An above ground pool is like $3000. a semi in-ground STARTS at $6000 and an inground is too much to even think about, besides which, you need a LOT of space for an inground or semi inground, they don't have a olot of space, so it doens't seem like they have much of a choice

Chat Icon Whatever - not everyone can afford an in ground pool, or can put one in their back yard - you do what you can... If someone had a toilet in their front yard, I would consider that trashy... an above ground pool? Absolutely not!!!

Not liking them doesn't make you snooty, I think saying they're "trashy" is what makes this girl snooty

Re: Above ground pools....trashy????

What exactly about an AG pool makes it trashy??? Chat Icon

I'm not even going to get into how ridiculous of a statement that is. Chat Icon To me dirty, grimy water is trashy. And an empty pool that's filled with garbage, well that's even worse. As long as the water is clean, what does it matter if it's an AG or IG???

Yea, you might've guessed we have an AG pool. Chat Icon

Re: Above ground pools....trashy????

I've had an above ground pool my whole life and still have one.

Not sure why trashy would be considered an appropriate adjective for describing an above ground pool.

Personally speaking, I don't think an inground pool is necessarily worth the increase in property tax as its considered a permanent fixture (or whatever they call it).

That was very tasteless of your co-worker.

Re: Above ground pools....trashy????

I have a semi and let me tell you- for the price we paid we were able to get a MUCH bigger pool than if we would have went for the inground.

The inground for the same price was HALF the size. My pool is HUGE and it was affordable.

And it is beatiful- we have decking around it, landscaping etc.

Nobody would EVER call it trashy who saw it.

I HATE ignorant people!

Honestly, I don't really care for them but it may be because I am originally from S. Florida - we didn't have those there. In fact, I didn't even know they existed until I moved up north for college.

I would always here people say "so and so has an in-ground pool" and I was likeChat Icon huh - what other kind is there?

Anyway, I have never even been in one...but I wouldn't say they are trashy.

If they are green then they are trashy.

lol....

We cannot get an inground here because the water table is too high & there is a collapse risk, so we are getting a semi inground (4 feet above ground, 2 feet below) and buidling it onto our deck. I don't think an above ground is trashy, I just like the deck around it so no one has to walk on the grass.....

...now THAT's trashy!

Ok, so how about this question, if money were not a factor, and assuming you had proper space for either one, would you prefer to have an above-ground or an in-ground pool Chat Icon

Re: Above ground pools....trashy????

I personally wouldn't want one, but I don't think they are trashy and I certainly don't look down on anyone who has one. But I can understand the "not aesthetically pleasing" comment because I don't care for how an above ground pool looks either. It's a simple case of to each, his own!

Re: Above ground pools....trashy????

DH wants one. I don't like them at all and for the most part don't find them aesthically pleasing unless it's with a deck attached to a house.

DH knew this was going to be a problem after the bottled beer debacle. I think bottled beer looks trashy at black tie events.Chat Icon
