Its around 3:30 on Day 21, no changes at all in the egg.
Sunny looks exhausted, she's not even bothering to puff herself up when I go in the coop. She still lets me check the egg & pet her, I don't know if that means anything signifigant though, some broodies get nasty but Sunny is my snuggly lap chicken so i don't think she'd ever be aggressive toward me.

After talking to Rich & a few of my "chicken friends" I've decided to hold off on buying the additional chick until we see a change in Sunny's egg.

A little background about Sunny in case anyone is interested. She is 2 years & 3 months old, she is a Buff Orpington, an old english breed of chicken. I got her when she was three days old. She developed a condition called "crookneck" or "stargazers syndrome" when she was about a week old. It is a condition that affects birds due to a vitamin deficency or brain damage. Her head was twisted around the wrong way & she often tumble over when she tried to walk. Chickens often die from this condition, I researched possible cures & we started treating her. DH & I fed her baby vitamins & vitamin E and gave her special neck massages and after about a week she seemed just about perfect.
Here she is with Nicole after she got better, she was about a month old here

Here she is getting a suntan, chickens like to lay in the sun sometimes when she was a "teenager", a little while before she started laying eggs

And this past January she came close to dying again when she went into a hard moult during the coldest part of the year. She was nearly bald & freezing, I kept her in the house for over a week in the dog's kennel to nurse her back to health.
So she is a very special pet to us.

And just because her beautiful sisters haven't been getting much attention with of the golden egg action I thought I'd post a couple of pics I took of them last time I went out to check on Sunny-Girl

well the coop is locked up for the night & we don't have any signs of pip, no cheeping, no wiggling of the egg.

I sure hope Sunny's hard work pays off & she's got a healthy baby in there!!!!!

I have to work tomorrow but the nursery is all set up so if she hatches the baby tomorrow we'll move them into the nursery in the evening.

Day 22 6:30 am, no visable change to the shell, no sound.
My chicken friends said I could candle the egg quickly one more time.
I just did & I was nervous to do it quickly but I sure think I saw a big change since the weekend, I'm pretty sure I saw the baby moving. The egg is hot & Sunny has a spot under egg where she plucked a few of her feathers out so the egg will touch her skin. It helps the humidity level which helps the egg to hatch.
She is such a trooper & I can tell she's getting tired. I hope the works her way out today while i'm at work so I can move them to the nursery & Sunny will be able to eat & drink. Last night I put a few mealworms( chicken's favorite treat) at the edge of the nest for her & she ate them, so at least I know she got some nutrition.

Send safe, healthy hatching vibes to Sunny & baby today please
Hopefully tonight we'll be looking at pics of a little fluff ball!

Ideas for names-because we are going to assume its a , chickens can't be sexed by a layperson until they are about 6 weeks old.

Each day that passes now greatly reduces the chance of Sunny's baby hatching successfully. I'm going to let her keep the egg until Saturday.
I candled it again quickly tonight & I swear I see movement, DH was with me & he said he couldn't see it but he admitted that the egg does look different over the light.
I know there are much bigger things happening in everyone's lives right now, but if you guys could spare a little LIF power, I'd appreciate it.
I'll just be so bummed for her if it doesn't work out, she wants it so badly.
I'll update in the morning.
