im trying to put together a list before i register and what exactly do i NEED for the crib. It just seems like alot if i go based on what BRU recommends.

Do i need a mattress pad if i do the ultimate crib sheet thing? and is a sheet saver the same thing? ugh, so confusing Chat Icon

yes I believe a sheet saver is the same as the ultimate crib sheet.

Mattress pad- good to keep the mattress safe from any accidents and to keep allergens and bed bugs out.

Ultimate crib sheet- used to protect the sheet from getting stained and having to change the sheet in the middle of the night. Instead you just take off the ultimate crib sheet and you're good to go.

We got both and obv sheets.

Ditto!
I registered for mattress pad/cover...and I registered for 3 Ultimate Crib sheets (always want to have a clean one on hand - I don't do laundry all that often so 2 is not enough for me). That is all you need IMO...in addition to the pretty bedding sheets of course.

Re: mattress pads, sheet savers, ultimate sheets?? what do i NEED?

I highly suggest registering for 2 mattress pad covers. DS is 17 months and just threw up in his sleep. The mattress pad cover really protected the mattress and having a spare allowed me to make his bed immediately while the other one was being washed.

A sheet saver is small and usually is placed by the baby's head to catch drool, spit up, etc. I never used one.

The Ultimate Crib sheet is a sheet that snaps on to the spindles of the crib. It is very easy to put on and take off. I only have one and didn't feel the need for more since I wash DS's sheets pretty often. I do recommend at least one, though. I have a few regular crib sheets that I rotate through.

I think it's all personal preference.

DD is 13 months and I never used anytihng other than a regular sheet.

I take that back... for a short period of time she was soaking through her diapers so I used a sheet saver, but that was only used until she stopped soaking through at night, I'd say about 2 months I used it.

DEF. The Ultimate crib sheet!!!! When DC threw up all over the crib I was lucky enough to be able to just take it out and the sheet undereath was clean. What a lifesaver that thing is!!! I would register for at least 2!!!

Re: mattress pads, sheet savers, ultimate sheets?? what do i NEED?

With DD most of it has proven useless...

I have 2 ultimate crib sheet and that's it. When she was small, before she rolled I would lay a burp cloth under her head to catch spit up... she very rarely ever leaks through her diaper. Maybe 2 or 3 times her whole life which meant that the leak was due to me not putting her diaper on properly or she outgrew it and needed a bigger size. I have put the ultimate crib sheet on when she was sick and had diarrhea after I changed the first sheet but otherwise I've never needed it.

My mattress is waterproof so I had no need for a mattress cover.

I know boys and girls are different, so ask me again in 6 months what I think is necessary.

I think mattress pads are on the list of sids risks (says the mom who didn't take the bumpers out of her DDs crib until she was 22 months old).

This is what I had and 2.5yrs later we still use the ultimate crib sheet bc its an absolute PITA to change the regular sheet in the crib. I highly recommend them!

From what was explained to me, it goes over the crib sheet and snaps around the posts of the bed. If the baby is to pee or get sick then you just remove the ultimate crib sheet (which is waterproof) and it saves you from changing the sheets in the middle of the night (which I heard is a pain because of how tight the mattress fits in the crib and if you decide to use bumpers of any kind)
When I was in BBB a mom was in there and she raved about the ultimate crib sheet and raved about what a life saver it was. I registered for two of them based on her recommendations and the recommendations in the book Baby Bargains.

I know! I thought the same thing!!!!
The mom at BBB said that when she had company over or something like that she would just pull the ultimate crib sheet off so that you could see the matching bedding. She said it is so easy to take on and off that you can just quickly take it on and off for naps and bedtime without a problem so I will probably just do that.

You can still see the sheet on the sides so the color comes through - only the top is covered. I have 2 of these - I don't think you need a mattress cover if you have these. So far they have been pretty helpful though I haven't had a major accident in bed yet. I plan on using this through potty training - it's pretty absorbent, waterproof, and soft.
