2 BIG nose bleeds in less then 24 hours.....

so joseph has had 2 major nose bleed in the last 24 hours. seriuosly pouring out of his nose lasts more than 1/2 hour. I spoke to the nurse and she told me to pinch his nose blah blah blah blah, everything i have already been doing. i am now waiting for the dr to call me back.

what do you all think? yes we have radiators but i dont think the house is that dry and there window are open.


his nose is still wet (bleeding inside) but hasnt come down yet.

any advice suggestions?

I used to get very bad nosebleeds as a kid - Ped said the heat was WAY too high - My house is 68 during the day, and down to 62 @ night - (still is now as an adult - it's the only way I can breathe!)
I also used a humidifier ........

I am very curious to see what the doctor says...over 1/2 for a nosebleed sounds like a long time...

The only thing I've ever known to work are humidifiers...do you have one in every main room in the house? I wonder if a vaporizer would work better?

In a co-op I would say it was the heat. Definitely keep the window open and ask the ped about using a cool mist humidifier for the boys.

We lived in the Hollis Court apts a few years back and we always opened the windows in the winter...unfortunately the heating usually can't be changed...they have to keep the temp at a certain level and that means that apts closer to the boiler are usually much warmer.

Vicks makes a thermometer that tells what the humidity is in the room..maybe you can get that to prove its to dry, and maybe the coop will do something about it.

As for nosebleeds, I used to get them all the time. Take a piece of toilet paper and fold it up making it think and long. Then stick it under his top lip (between his gums and his lip) Sounds strange but it puts pressure on the right part and stops the nosebleed

Nicholas started getting bloody noses around your boys age. It turns out he has a clotting disorder so that's something to look into also if it continues on for an extended period of time. I hope it stops soon! I would try to put some vaseline in there to counteract the dryness.

You know that the girls used to get nosebleeds all the time too right?

I would have the doctor look at it and tell you if he can see where the bleeding is coming from. (whether in the nose itself or deeper in the sinuses.)

He's probably getting them right now b/c suddenly it is very cold and then he is going into your coop that is so hot. A humidifier will help some...as will just keeping the nose moist. Vaseline in the nose works really well too...
