Anyone following the Ohio rail disaster?

I have been following this as best I could from the beginning, fully aware that most of the reporting has been suppressed.I am BEYOND infuriated at our administrations lack of response to this disaster. How TF is Biden in a visit to Ukraine before visiting the Ohio? Where is Pete Buttigieg? I am aware that republicans want to squash this story as this would never have happened is Trump didn’t roll back protective acts put in place originally by Obama, but why is the Biden administration ignoring this? Their lack of response is just as bad. The toxic plume hit my area by Rockland and we can smell the vinyl chloride and people are having respiratory issues. I am disgusted.

Agreed- and the Biden admin. denied aid when requested at first... but has no problem sending money to Ukraine... crazy.

I have not been following but what was their reasoning for denying aid?

I know. It is so sad and infuriating at the same time.
It also makes me upset that the migrants coming in are getting free stuff, and hotels to live in.
(We went to a baseball tournament back in October in Staten Island. We got a call the day before the tournament that they were kicking us out of our hotel and had to find another place to stay. We asked why? The staff said they are closing the hotel, which was a Holiday Inn to house migrants.)

Oh no.... where in Rockland ? I live right by Pearl River and haven't noticed anything but I believe it.

And this is soooo upsetting- those poor people. I can't believe they way they are being treated ! Cannot believe he's over in Ukraine and could care less about whats going on in the US.

I think the Administration could handle the Ohio disaster better.

However, what’s going on in Ukraine is very important, especially with Spring coming up. I have read and observed a lot and the situation is escalating quite a bit. I’m more worried about Ukraine, tbh. Maybe because it’s right on my doorstep, who knows?

But to give them 500 million MORE? This has been going on for a year now and how about helping OUR country first.

The President could have visited both Ohio and the Ukraine. The train didn’t just derail this weekend, it happened on 2/3 with the controlled burn a few days later.

It’s not just the fact he went overseas, it’s the fact he didn’t do anything before he went and he didn’t call until he was overseas. And really hasn’t sent help/aid/anything…

I get what you are saying. The war in Ukraine has been going on for a year, yes. But it is about to get serious.

And, yes, I get wanting to help OUR country first. I totally get that. I think we need to look at the collective picture here. Yes, something horrible happened in OUR country. But something worse may happen overseas and things need to be taken care of there first.

Why? Why can't we EVER think of our country first? I know you are vested more into this because you are closer to it but there is so much in this country that can be helped first. I am sure if you were living in Ohio and not able to go home or drink the water, you would agree too.

I wish I could comment more on this, but I can’t. I’m sorry, but I can’t.

And I agree. It kills me that this environmental disaster has happened. It’s like two choices: your daughter or your son. The administration has to choose and balance.

That’s all I can say. The world is really difficult right now.

But it shouldn’t have needed to be a choice. He should’ve recognized the Ohio problem before he went overseas as it happened 2.5 weeks ago. And then those in the administration who deal with transportation can take point. He could’ve done both. Or even acknowledged the problem at home sooner, it took Trump going to the area for action to take place.

I said before that I am not not happy with the way the Biden administration has handled it. It shouldn’t have been a choice, but I’m reacting more to comments on this thread about take care of our country first and “I can’t believe he is over in Ukraine” and I had to leave my hotel so immigrants can stay there, etc.

Trump’s deregulation sort of caused this. Trump is only there because Ohio is a swing state. I highly doubt he cares about what happened.

Why is it so hard to believe that he actually cares? Yes, he IS running again BUT this administration is a total joke and this country is paying for it.

Without using the word Trump- can anyone say that this administration is not a complete and utter disaster?
I think that can be agreed upon across all party lines.

I would hope everyone would say that and know that maybe they made the wrong decision voting for Biden. You thought you had the worst with Trump. Ha.
