Need some bookkeeping advice

Anyone work in a finance department?
I'm looking to update a system and I've never done it for an office before. I need to keep copies of checks but I'm not sure the best way to file them and they currently keep paper copies. I'm getting away from that and want it digital.


We have quickbooks but I'm not trained in it. Can you scan into it?

We went digital about two years ago - it's great. What I do is scan the checks into a folder on my computer. For instance - I have one folder called "cash receipts" and then in that folder I have subfolders where I put the checks in. So I could have five checks in one folder and I name the folder whatever the date is that I deposited them.

We use Quickbooks too. I don't do this because it doesn't work for me on an accounting level - but, if you click on a customer in the customer list - there's a little paper clip on the top that you can attach a check (or anything) once it's scanned and that will keep a record under the customer's account.
Other than that, I'm not sure how else to scan into QB.

There is an option to save the files in quickbooks online. Not sure if the other versions have it.

There is an option to attach files in both the online and desktop versions of quickbooks. If you need to keep copies I would scan them in or download the copies from your bank account and attach the copies to whatever invoice they were used to pay in Quickbooks.
