Totally willing to vaccinate myself once a year for this thing. Will wear a mask when it’s cold flu season when in crowded areas. This is what I am willing to do short term. That’s it.

Ditto. The vaccine isnt supposed to stop transmission, its supposed to limit severe illness. Look at hospitalization rates, they have dropped like a rock- 90% of the ICUs filled up are covid patients who are NOT vaccinated. I am aware I will likely be exposed to Covid, if I havent already. But because I was vaccinated, my chances of landing in the ICU are lower. Those of you who are obsessed with” freedumbs” need a f^#@*& reality check. 700K Americans dead in 1 year and counting, yet too damn selfish to want to do your part to end this thing. Reading some iof the ignorance on this board is kust Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

But if your vaccine is keeping you out of the hospital as it's designed, why do you care if all those ignorant unvaxed end up sick or hospitalized? If people want to gamble with their life let them. Get your readily available vaccine and boosters and protect yourself.

Or I would like to know how getting the vaccine is doing our part when you can still can get and transmit Covid? The above poster explicitly states they got it to not be hospitalized, so you are doing your part for yourself? How come some folks can make decisions for themselves and others can’t?

Now if we were talking about wearing masks and not going out while sick then I can get on board with the whole “do your part”. Also seems to be ignorance on both sides as within this thread someone posted how the vaccine will stop the virus. Yes a vaccine that is only working to keep you out of the hospital is going to end this thing. Makes total sense!

Exactly. Like do they get upset when someone puts their life in danger by riding a motorcycle or goes skydiving? Do stunt people make them foam at the mouth?

You are covered, or at least you think you are, so let others do what they find fit for their own life.

From what I understand (writing this very quickly) is that they haven’t gotten another piece of the puzzle with regards to herd immunity. But if 40% of the population doesn’t want to get the vaccine it makes the other 60% of those vaccinated more of a struggle to get to an illness where it really is more of flu instead of this unpredictable thing and unpredictable herd immunity.

At this point I know I have a bit of protection now according to research and will just most likely suffer from cold-like symptoms. I’m happy with that, but I’d really like to see more people help with it because who knows what will happen next year.

They have a 3G rule here. The prefix ge- is for past tense and it means geimpft (vaccinated), genesen (healed), getestet (tested). You need to follow that with certain places and I hope it soon goes to 2G (vaccinated and healed). They are making the people pay for tests beginning in October. The school I work at now requires testing three times a week or vaccination or healed.

So it would be nice to have the part of the rest of the public. Just saying.

So what if next year the people who got the vaccines already say they are not going to get anymore and won’t accept the booster? Numbers will most likely go down honestly as many are not willing to keep doing this every year. The booster supposedly is not protecting against variants and just basically a 3rd shot.

How do you know when your vaccine will “expire” also and not be working anymore for you?

Like I said short term when the vaccine is more effective. Once we hit March 2022, if I am still here then short term is over. We need to accept this is moving towards an endemic like the flu. I don’t even get a flu shot!

Back to topic, many jobs do not require a flu shot so why a Covid shot? To justify the amount of money going to big pharma? We paid for it so now we need to use it? This is insanity.

Yeah I do as people want to avoid that question as it is really up in the air what comes next and they have already said that the vaccine doesn’t work as well with some people and not as long.

You are only thinking about today which defeats the purpose of trying to eradicate this as much as we can.

No one knows what will happen in the future. I’m not willing to waste time on something when scientific research tells me what I can do now.

Yes they know this vaccine lasts about 8 months and not everyone will have the same effectiveness.

That means people who got it in January and February could possibly not have the same effectiveness now.

I know exactly what it means. I don’t need an explanation.

The effectiveness of those who got it in Jan or Feb needed help from the rest of the population. Instead that time was wasted arguing on social media.

ETA: it probably means that those who did their part aren’t going to do your part about fighting mandates. Just saying.

All employers with 100+ must require vax or weekly tests

My thoughts on this- a vaccine mandate won't eradicate COVID. Nothing will. In the last 18 months, I have accepted this and it seems that many have not. That being said, I am vaccinated, as is my husband. We will get a booster. Do I think everyone should be made to do the same? Absolutely not. I have ZERO issue with anyone who chooses to not get vaccinated. They may have a higher risk of hospitalization if infected, but that's quite honestly not my problem. If they are ok with that risk, it has no bearing on my life.
What bothers me are the people who refuse it all. The unmask our children rally I encountered in Massapequa a few weeks ago was so obnoxious. Rally against vaccine mandates for children? Sure. Rally against remote learning? Sure. But when you aren't even willing to have you and your family wear a piece of cloth over your face to protect others, well that's when I lose all respect for you. My kindergartner HATES her mask. Hates it. Refused to put it on to get on the bus. I told her if she didn't wear it not only was she not allowed to go to school, but I was pulling her out of dance and gymnastics as well because if she isn't willing to protect others, she is not allowed to participate. She put it. She didn't like it, but she did it.
I am sorry she doesn't like the mask. I don't either. But doing things you don't like are a part of life. I will not teach my child to break the rules and risk the health of others just because she doesn't like it.

Numbers will most likely go down honestly as many are not willing to keep doing this every year. The booster supposedly is not protecting against variants and just basically a 3rd shot.

How do you know when your vaccine will “expire” also and not be working anymore for you?

I’m doing what I can now. You keep asking the same questions, sigh.

ETA: you seem to be stuck on the past. Move on.

So now we have to worry about those people? Ones who ran for the vaccine that was told it would last at least a year and then they would just get another yearly shot?

Many of those people don’t want the booster either so they will be in your category of selfish, horrible people who will now need help from others.

This is a dumbassss argument. Most people, even the immune compromised, recover from COVID without hospitalization. People are not dying in the streets from COVID..sorry they just aren't and we should be thankful for that.

Is it a deadlier than normal virus, yes unfortunately, however even so the overall survival rate is 98%..98%!!!!

Your vaccine only protects YOU, yes YOU from the small chance of hospitalization if you end up with COVID. It does not protect those around you from getting COVID because as we have found out these past few weeks the vaccinated have gotten and transmitted COVID in pretty high numbers. So how is the vaccine supposed to end this pandemic??? Please explain that to me.

So if you're vaccinated, good for you. What do you care if anyone else is? You protected yourself so mind your dammn business and keep it moving.

It's astounding to me how blinded people are when it comes to real SCIENCE when it comes to this shot. Open your eyes, use basic critical thinking skills...the ignorance is exceptional.

But if your vaccine is keeping you out of the hospital as it's designed, why do you care if all those ignorant unvaxed end up sick or hospitalized? If people want to gamble with their life let them. Get your readily available vaccine and boosters and protect yourself.

Most of the people I know that got the vax did it because they believed 1. it would prevent them from getting and transmitting COVID and 2. they would be able to go back to life pre-COVID. Now that that has proven to be untrue, many of them are skeptical about getting endless booster shots and who can blame them.

I am following the science and the science changes when studies are completed and we have more data. Vaccinations dont stop Covid but its a step toward reducing rates of hospitalization which is why every government was in a rush to get their hands on these vaccines. When was the last time you saw anyone diagnosed with POLIO or MEASLES?? Vaccines helped people avoid these horrible diseases. It goes without saying that the higher the rate of Covid positive cases in a community, the higher the rate of hospitalizations because more people are exposed. I certainly do not feel like dealing with the possibility of long Covid. I understand other people are comfortable with higher risk levels and thats fine. You can still fly, eat indoors, see a movie and gather with friends and family- so where are you saying that life isnt almost back to normal? Office workers are trickling back to work, NYC workers are going to be commuting soon and subways will be packed. If you are vaccinated, your risk remains low for severe illness. I personally am avoiding certain situations but I wear my mask, wash hands and socially distance. Thats al we need to do! Kids right now are the ones at risk for major exposure as they havent been vaccinated. Even though I am vaccinated and so are my 75 year old parents, I do NOT want to expose them if I can avoid it. When ICU beds are full with unvaccinated Covid patients, people with non Covid medical emergencies camt get care or find beds.

While covid is a coronavirus , we know iit will NOT be eradicated and all we can hope for is for it to mutate into a less virulent form. The modern flu is an outgrowth of the 1918 pandemic. My anger stems from people who dont want to wear a simple mask or get vaccinated-I keep reading false statements on here that the vaccine is supposed to stop transmission. It does not, the aim is for societies to buy time to allow medical communities worldwide find therapeutic treatments and tweak vaccine formulas as needed as data comes in. People are so angry at politicians when they dont have the answers. No one has the answers, but vaccines ARE working as hospitalization rates are down and death rates have slowed.

Yes the science is constantly evolving which is why so many people are so hesitant to take a NEW vaccine without years of studies behind it.

Once again hospitalization rates due to COVID were low overall even for the immune compromised. Do you think hospitals would be threatening to lay off workers who are not vaccinated risking staffing shortages in a medical crisis if they were truly inundated with COVID positive patients???

These vaccines were meant to be a means to an end of this pandemic and a way to keep us safe which is why so many people were quick to get it however on the flip side there are also people like myself that were skeptical about the vaccines efficacy and side effects.

Neither side is wrong...what is happening now though is that vaccines are being mandated and pushed down our throats, our jobs and livelihoods are being threatened if we don't take a vaccine that is still new and is not guaranteed to end or prevent COVID. That is what people are mad at...

The measures that have been put in place have not worked...the goal posts are being moved constantly for a vaccine that is still very experimental. How do people not see this??

I think some are and that is why they don’t want this booster once they are eligible.

But if your vaccine is keeping you out of the hospital as it's designed, why do you care if all those ignorant unvaxed end up sick or hospitalized? If people want to gamble with their life let them. Get your readily available vaccine and boosters and protect yourself.

I’m doing what I can now. You keep asking the same questions, sigh.

ETA: you seem to be stuck on the past. Move on.

So now we have to worry about those people? Ones who ran for the vaccine that was told it would last at least a year and then they would just get another yearly shot?

Many of those people don’t want the booster either so they will be in your category of selfish, horrible people who will now need help from others.

I would hardly consider myself selfish. I wear my mask still and will continue to do so. I cannot understand how people are so against masks. Do people get this upset that they have to wear clothes? Are you still wearing your mask? I get the impression that you are not.

I did my part and got the vaccine, after debating it for a long time. It isn’t selfish to not help with mandates. Plus you have a *choice* to get a vaccine or do weekly tests. If you refuse to even do a weekly test to keep your job, then I don’t know what to tell you. Everyone has to do various things to get various jobs. If you don’t do it, you don’t get/keep the job.

I don’t have answers. You don’t seem to have answers. Scientists know a bit more about it. But they don’t have all the answers. I’m doing what I see as the best alternative for me and society based on figures.

I dunno, maybe because the mask does nothing in majority of cases.

We aren’t wearing the n95 masks for starters. The ones we buy on Amazon and in drugstores do nothing. I go grocery shopping and spend a couple seconds next to people. I have plexiglass between myself and the cashier who I spend maybe two minutes in close contact with.

What’s the point of wearing a mask when I’m just walking past people?

School….that’s an entirely different beast. The schools should provide masks that guarantee protection from Covid if they want to force these children to wear a mask all day in hot classrooms. Oh, they can’t do that because they can’t guarantee it protects from Covid….
