Favor please!
I don't usually ask for favors on social media, but I am now. Two of my sons have needed special services such as speech and OT. My 5 year old still requires them while my 8 year old has been declassified. ?? The letter below was sent out by my 5 year old's school to call on the public to help. If you haven't had a child need services, I can personally attest that the are crucial, particularly at the young ages of the children. My children have benefitted tremendously from them and now it is vital that we return the support. Please take a moment of your time to read this and urge our Governor to sign!
"I am writing to you to urgently request your assistance in supporting our special needs community. Thanks to the advocacy, letters, emails that we (our state-wide coalitions and communities) have provided in the past, very critical legislation has been passed in both the NY State Senate, and House of Representatives. All that remains is for our Governor to sign this legislation. Once again, we need everyone’s support to ensure that this happens. Please read below and take part in emailing/writing to our governor. Thank you for asking your state legislators to pass A. 8013/ S. 6516A, which would provide preschool special education programs, as well as state-approved non-public schools for students with intensive needs, with the same increase in payment rates as school districts. Now that the New York State Assembly and Senate have passed the bill, we need your help to urge Governor Cuomo to sign It.
More than 60 preschool special education programs around the State have closed in recent years, including more than 30 in New York City, and many providers have said that the State’s low payment rates are why. Meanwhile, children are going without the preschool special education classes they need. In fact, according to recently released data, in New York City alone, 1,215 preschoolers with disabilities were waiting for seats in legally mandated preschool special education classes at the end of the 2019-20 school year.
Email Governor Cuomo and urge him to sign A. 8013/ S. 6516A into law to help prevent additional special education programs from shutting their doors and ensure children with disabilities receive the support they need to learn. Click the link to send an email."
