Nell, does your company have employees working in person right now? If/when people are back together, how does your employer handle a positive case? You seem proud of the fact that your employer won’t ask for vaccination information at all, but it’s relevant information when someone at the workplace tests positive assuming that the company would want to contain the spread as well as limit who should test/quarantine. It’s more about CYA than anything else.

I don't know, why don't you call my legal team and ask them if covid still fascinates you so much?
I'm proud of nothing just stating how it is.
We have several offices open nationally just none in NY yet .
I have no idea how they handle a positive case, its not even on my radar to be honest .

Your whole point about your employer not seeking any information about vaccination status has absolutely no value when you’re all still working remotely. There’s no reason to ask about vaccination status in that situation.

The information is certainly relevant though for companies who have employers on site, potentially develop guidelines for those who aren’t vaccinated and have to deal with positive cases.

This has nothing to do with fascination with covid. I’m not sure why you need to be snarky. These are real considerations that companies are facing as more people go back to the office.

Exactly. It becomes a real concern when someone tests positive in the office.

For some companies it may be important but for others like my husband's it's not. They just allow their unvaccinated employees work from home if a case is reported. One month he was advised to work from home on 3 separate occasions due to 3 diff employees having COVID. They still do not ask or require vaccination and all employees are expected to work in the office on a daily basis.

Your husband’s company made the decision to allow unvaccinated employees to work from home when there’s a positive case so vaccination status does appear to be taken into consideration in those instances. If they’re allowing unvaccinated employees to work from home in those instances, wouldn’t they essentially know who is and isn’t vaccinated? They may not be tracking it in general, but I would think the information becomes relevant when there’s a positive case and who may have the flexibility to work from home.

For jobs that don’t have the ability to be done from home, obviously that information is much more relevant in deciding how to handle positive cases and potential workplace exposure.

No because people like my husband who are not vaccinated still choose to show up to work.

Just out of curiosity, are they making employees wear masks or distance? Or is it just up to the individual?

No they stopped mask wearing and social distancing requirements months ago.

That is wild. I hope they all stay safe.

My office is also requiring vaccinations to return in September. Most employees (except very senior level) had the option to choose remote or in-office. In office must be vaccinated, must come in Tuesday and Wednesday (can work from home other days). No masks, no social distancing.

Re: Morgan Stanley plans to block unvaccinated employees and guests from entering its New York offices

I am back at work in the office full time. Most employees are vaxxed but my company is neither requiring it or asking about it. I am not vaxxed and some people know that. So far nobody has run away from me in fear. Masks only in common areas, but for everyone vaxxed or not. We are using the same quarantine guidelines for any positive cases as we have used the past year whether you are vaccinated or not, since you can still get it and spread it.

Re: Morgan Stanley plans to block unvaccinated employees and guests from entering its New York offices

Just spoke to my boss. He said that within in the next 2 weeks or so, emails will be going out that all offices will be reopened with no restrictions.
(my office happens to be gone- the lease expired over the winter so we moved out, but they are searching for a new space on LI for us right now)

He also said that the line will be- "vaccinated people will not have to wear masks, but we will not ask you your vaccination status"

I wonder if my point has value now that I now have official word...

Vaccinated and unvaccinated can walk into most places now without mask requirements or atleast they aren't going to ask for proof so I am not surprised that employers aren't that concerned.

Why would it wild? It seems that most people at work places are vaccinated so why are people so worried? If covid had run rampant in RainyDay’s DH’s job, she would have mentioned that so that doesn’t seem to be the case. Also covid is not the only virus that has existed, there are guidelines/protocols in place already for when people get sick with a virus. I’m sure companies will apply the same guidelines when someone gets covid.

If there wasn't some big outbreak at Hershey Park last week, an office shouldn't be an issue.
The park was at crowd levels like I had never experienced. No masks. All one on top of the next in a huge throng to get into the park.
Crowds everywhere you turned all day, no distancing.
I don't think an office would even come close.

There were 3 employees that had tested positive in the office within 1 month , however, it was not due to lack of social distancing in the office. If anything his job has become more lax as time has gone on. To them its more important to be in the office

So many places have been open, shoulder to shoulder since the mask mandate was lifted in May.

Yes. But this was crowd levels I haven't seen since 2019. Actually it was worse than I have ever seen at this park.
Anyone who was in the slight bit still nervous would NOT have done well in this situation.

One month he was advised to work from home on 3 separate occasions due to 3 diff employees having COVID. They still do not ask or require vaccination and all employees are expected to work in the office on a daily basis.

Just out of curiosity, are they making employees wear masks or distance? Or is it just up to the individual?

No they stopped mask wearing and social distancing requirements months ago.

That is wild. I hope they all stay safe.

Yup and I am sure there are many.

I can’t believe you were at Hershey Park, that’s more shocking to me than a lack of an outbreak. Chat Icon

LOL- we go every year- we didn't go last year because even though they reopened in July last year, I wasn't wearing a mask in that park in that heat.
So we had to use our tickets.
The kids love it.

We went to Hershey park in November and it was PACKED...shoulder to shoulder. We were in Lancaster PA for a few days this week and 98% of the people had no masks on outside or inside. It was glorious to walk around and see people's faces and everyone breathing fresh air.

Same! I saw very few masks.
The heat index was in the 100s and it was soooo hot that there were moments I felt close to heat exhaustion. There were reports of many people passing out that day as well. I cannot imagine wearing a mask in those conditions.

You can continue to be snarky, but vaccination status isn’t only relevant to the mask issue. It’s not surprising that many employers are going by the honor system with the requirements for wearing masks.

You already stated you don’t know how your employer will handle positive cases and potential quarantines. That’s when I would expect employers to gather information and decide what to do about close contacts. Again, it’s a CYA move if they want people to continue working in the office following a positive case. If employers have no issue sending close contacts home to quarantine when someone tests positive, then vaccination status doesn’t matter. If they want to keep people in the office as much as possible however, it would make sense to ask that information when someone tested positive and allow vaccinated employees with no symptoms to remain in the office. I’m not suggesting that all employers should ask about vaccination status, but it is important information when handling positive cases and potential workplace exposure.

Depending on the size of the employer, how closely offices/cubicles are spaced and how often people closely interact with one another, it can be risky to not require masks for unvaccinated employees, remove social distancing requirements and not quarantine unvaccinated close contacts. If most people are vaccinated and cases are low, there are obviously fewer concerns.

Before COVID, the guidelines for illness at the employers I was familiar with were along the lines of if you feel sick, stay home. There certainly wasn’t any type of contact tracing or quarantining. COVID changed all of that. I haven’t seen the same type of guidelines for other illnesses as I’ve seen for COVID. I do think the vaccine can bring the guidelines back in line with any other illness at least for vaccinated people. If employers follow CDC guidance, there will be differences in how vaccinated and unvaccinated exposures and illnesses are treated.

I was too bored to read through the 40 documents they put up in regards to opening the offices with no restrictions as of next week, but they are saying coming in to the office is voluntarily for now so I am sure they will just tell people to work form home should their be a positive case- regardless of vaccine status. From what I heard they really didn't want to open the offices ever again, but many of the VP's pushed for it as we are losing employees at a clip and many are stating in their exit interviews that they feel disconnected and there is no culture anymore being forced to sit home. Many are leaving for jobs where the offices have been open for months already
So they threw us a bone and opened the offices- but made it voluntarily.
I don't' think they are too concerned with having people in offices- they just want to offer the option for those of us who are over working in our pajamas alone for a year and a half.
So should their be a positive case, they will just tell everyone to work from home.
I know it's hard to believe it but I am not the only one on this thread who stated their company, or they husband's company, is NOT asking vaccine status regardless.
It is happening.

As of right now, we don’t have a set date to go back and no known rules about vaccinations. We are a pretty lax company so thinking they won’t require it.

I would rather stay home than have to do a survey and taking temps every morning and masks in common areas.

Honestly we could get together with coworkers if we want out of work and my boss actually was looking for me last weekend when she went out as we usually see each other at places we both go to.

That’s interesting since I feel like we’re dealing with the opposite. For those who have been working remotely and now have to come back to work FT, a lot of people seem unhappy about having to come back in and I wouldn’t be surprised if many are looking elsewhere. I feel like I’m one of the few who’s looking forward to being back on a regular basis. There are some benefits to working from home, but it’s really not for me.

I like it but think I will have to go back eventually. I have worked for 30 years so feel like I am getting a wonderful break.

Just out of curiosity, are they making employees wear masks or distance? Or is it just up to the individual?

No they stopped mask wearing and social distancing requirements months ago.

That is wild. I hope they all stay safe.

Geez I wonder how businesses dealt with flu cases in the past?!? I’m pretty certain as more time passes covid will become less of a health problem, it’s already been happening. Oh and FYI, u said in a previous comment about allowing vaccinated employees with no symptoms to remain in the office. Well a vaccinated person can still transmit the virus to others so allowing them to stay in the working place wouldn’t make sense if the worry is spreading the virus.

I’ve had the flu and other viruses before and no one else had to quarantine because of it. I just stayed home while sick. In my experience, prior to COVID, I’ve never seen an employer send other people home who worked closely with a sick individual when they weren’t experiencing any symptoms. COVID was a game changer in handling potential exposure. I do agree as treatments continue to improve, cases are lower and a majority of people are vaccinated, it will be treated as less of a health crisis.

From the data so far, there seems to be minimal risk of a vaccinated person having a breakthrough infection and transmitting the virus to others. That’s why if employers follow the CDC guidance, vaccinated individuals who come in close contact with someone who’s positive do not need to quarantine as long as they are not exhibiting symptoms. I’m not saying it can’t happen, but the risk is pretty low. If employers want people in the office, it’s reasonable IMO to follow CDC guidance in deciding which, if any, people to quarantine after exposure to a positive case.
