Hello ladies,

I don't post on here often as I don't get much computer time other then when I am at work. But I wanted to give some info on donating cord blood that I discovered.

For those of you who are not planning on banking it for yourself, it would be such a nice thing to donate that cord blood. Donated cord blood first goes on a donor's list so that people with diseases that can be helped by cord blood can accept those donations (examples are children with lukemia, etc). If it is not used or put on the donor list it is used for research to help find more cures for diseases. So either way, you are helping all of the children of the future.

The only company that I could find here in NYC (which is where I am delivering) was Cryobanks. When you go to their website (there is a link below) you can fill out info for a donation kit. You do have to begin the process by your 7th month as you have to fill out paperwork to be approved (no blood diseases, STD's, etc.) When you donate the cord blood it does not change your birthing experience at all. You do have to call the place when you go into labor and after you deliver and they will pick it up at the hospital.

When you don't donate or store the cord blood it simply gets disposed of at the hospital. Please consider donating your baby's cord blood to help many children. Thank you.
