Kidney Stones
So I recently found out I have 2 kidney stones, 1 in my left kidney and 1 in my right. The Dr said they're a decent size and I can't pass them on my own so I'm going to a Urologist. What usually happens at the first appointment with the Urologist? I'm clueless and the receptionist wouldn't tell me anything. TIA!

Re: Kidney Stones
They pretty much will just take a medical history and talk to you about tests you might need and the procedure to blast them if that is the route they want to go etc.
I went for my first visit after an attack landed me in the ER and they foudn the stones on a cat scan. They then referred me to the uroligst.
He really didn't touch me or anything like that- it was more talking about what my stone was made of (I had passed it and they analyzed it in the lab) and what diet I should be following to reduce my chances of them.
All mine were small enough to leave alone so we never had to discuss options for that
Were you diagnosed with a cat scan? If so, you should bring the films from that

Kidney Stones
I had an ultra sound done and they found 2. My regular doctor said they were big and referred me to the Urologist. I guess tomorrow I'll see him and hear what he has to say then hopefully I can get rid of these soon.

He may need a cat scan as well to really pinpoint where they are if they want to do lithotripsy. (That's where they blast them with sound waves to break them up and you just pass the gravel)

This. Plus depending on the size and exact location, they may have you try drinking more and taking Flomax To help open the tubes more flushing them out faster
Best of luck !

Re: Kidney Stones
At the first appointment with a urologist, they will typically perform a physical exam and review your medical history. They may also order tests such as an ultrasound or CT scan to get more information about kidney stones. The doctor will then discuss treatment options with you based on their findings. Treatment can range from medications to help pass the stone naturally, to minimally invasive procedures like lithotripsy (shock wave therapy), or surgery depending on the size and location of the stones.
