s/o to nightmares - sleep paralysis
Has anyone else ever had episodes of sleep paralysis?
It’s such a bizarre and frightening occurrence and I’ve had episodes happen a few times a year since I was a teen.
There’s a documentary on Netflix about sleep paralysis and I can’t bring myself to watch it...part of me feels that having dealt with it, watching a documentary about it would somehow make it even more scary.

Not to the extent that people on those shows have but yes. Very rarely and probably not for very long periods of time but I do recall that feeling.
I also feel like I can't breathe when it's happening and like i'm going to suffocate but I can't move.
Almost like drowning.
OMG it's so freaking scary!

Yes I have and it is freaking scary. sometimes i feel like I cant breathe. I hate when it happens. I haven't had one in a year though.

I feel like that too or like there is some evil presence around me I actually start praying in my head and then say a prayer when I get out of it or else I can’t go back to sleep.

Yes!! It’s the worst
You literally are awake but not and can’t move but try to! I hate it!!!! I find it happens to me more when I fall asleep on the couch watching tv rather then in bed...

What series? House on Haunted Hill?
Weird thing is, I’m totally okay with the notion of human spirits, and I don’t get scared about ghosts. So I’d kind of welcome that if only because of the curiosity factor.
But I do remember some vivid episodes where it felt like there was a presence in the room, at the foot of my bed, years ago. Non-human. THAT was wild and petrifying.

Not me but my boyfriend has this. Scared the hell out of me the first time I witnessed it.
I thought he was just having a nightmare. He was mumbling "help me help me". When I woke him he explained what was happening. Crazy!

I've been experiencing episodes since I was a teen. Some nights are so bad I get episodes repeatedly back to back all night, I'll eventually manage pull myself out and go right back in. I've somewhat gotten used to it by now, but it is def terrifying. Especially when I'm trying to scream for help, but nothing comes out and no one can hear me or help.

Yes! It tends to happen to me if I’m really over-tired, or if I fall asleep on the couch - and I think only if I’m laying on my back. Such a freaky thing.

Never knew this was a thing until I heard it listed as a potential side effect of a medication on a commercial. Sounds like one of the scariest things ever! Just the thought of it makes me anxious. Can't even imagine what actually experiencing it must be like

I can relate.
I am trying to talk and i can't. I can feel myself trying to say something. Sometimes I will get a help out. And that's when i try and say the Lords prayer and the hail Mary. I can say it in my head but I am unable to speak. and the more I try and say it the more stressed I become.
I am going to watch the Nightmare right now!

This can happen to me a few times a year and I thought it was normal for everyone. I asked my DH about this after reading this thread and he was like "What the F---". I thought he knew that this happened to me and was like that sounds "scary as sh!t".
He asked what do I do when it happens and I told him I pray, grab his arm or something and go back to bed. once or twice it happened when he wasn't home and I just did the little kid thing and put the covers over my head.
One time I felt like I was choking really bad. It was my necklace tight around my neck not to the point where i would suffocate. But I couldn't move, so I had to wait there in panic till I could relieve the pressure.

I have been getting it since I was a teen or maybe younger. It is horrible and so scary. I didn't know it had a name till I finally looked it up. I feel like Im dying and sometimes I just give in to that feeling and think ok Im going to die. My brain is awake my body asleep and I can't move at all. I get myself to think that I have to goto the bathroom to wake up, or I read if you try and move your toes it will wake the rest of you up. I have a hard time going back to bed after, I dont want to goto bed after because I don't want it to happen again. I started to watch the documentary but I had to stop, my DH was not into it. If I panic it makes it worse, I try and relax and know that it will pass.

I’ve been having these episodes since I was a kid. It’s so scary. I had no idea what it was even called until I saw something on Facebook a few years back. I still remember the first time it happened. I was awak but not really and I remember seeing and hearing my dog barking at me beside my bed. My parents were sleeping and I couldn’t talk or move. I was terrified. It still scares me. Sometimes I can feel myself going into the paralysis as I’m starting to fall asleep so I force myself to wake up but it’ll keep happening as I’m falling asleep again. My husband knows it happened to me but he’s never really witnessed it I guess or knew it was happening. I get so scared when I wake up. If he’s in bed I cuddle up super close to him after an episode otherwise I can’t go back to sleep.
