Contact Lens wearers...a few questions

I'm a lens virgin so be patient!

I have my trial lenses. They are acuview moist I think. Besides getting them from the doctor, where else should I consider getting them?

Will my doctor be insulted when another company requests the prescription? I know, I know, probably ridiculous but it's like getting a hair cut at another place. I feel terrible. But if I can save money, I will.

Now, I am super excited about not carrying around 2 pairs of glasses but at the same time, I feel like I should keep my glasses around just in case I'm having a bad day, lose one, etc.

Where do you keep your glasses? Work? Car?

I keep my glasses at home and a spare in my bag in case I need them at work. I just get mine through the office since my husbands insurance covers the total cost. I have also in the past just asked for a script. 1800 contacts is fairly reasonable I’ve never really shopped around because my job reimbursed $250 a year for contacts and my husbands cover. They don’t get insulted! I also have my regular and prescription sunglasses with me in case I do need to take them out I have prescription sunglasses. I NEED sunglasses I have terrible light sesnsitivity so it’s a must for me! Good luck!!

I just get them from the optometrist. I wear the 2 week wear disposable. A full year costs me $200, so I never looked around for cheaper.
I keep my glasses at home 98% of the time! Never take them with me to work. I do keep contact solution in my desk in case I need to rinse them for some reason during the day.

Re: Contact Lens wearers...a few questions

I get mine from the optometrist. Even though I may save a few bucks, they are always willing to spot me if I forget to go back early enough to order more, will give me tons of samples each visit, and have given me replacement if there’s been a defect in a lens (not as big a deal now with dailies but this was a bigger deal back in the day of the 2 week wear ones). The price difference I found of other places is negligible compared to these perks.

I usually get half from the optometrist bc that's all my insurance covers and order the other half online. I don't think anyone will be insulted, I assume it's very common and the receptionists are the ones dealing with it.

I keep my glasses at home but I would keep a spare set of contacts and some eye drops on hand while you get used to things.

I get them from lensdiscounters.com. I don't really care if the optometrist is offended, I guess that's mean but oh well. It's really like half the price. I tend to not use as many boxes as my optometrist tries to sell me, so I'll buy the initial one box from him and then order online as needed. I keep my glasses in my car and lens solution in my desk drawer at work (and one at home).

I order from my eye dr. I only buy the 6 month supply and it lasts me till my next visit. I never carry glasses with me. I only wear them at night after I take out my lenses.

I always ask for a script. They can't refuse. I send a picture of the script to 1-800 contacts. Not sure if they call to verify when I send the picture.
My optometrist definitely wants me to buy from them, but it's usually cheaper online. Honestly, the staff can be very pushy and it makes me want to switch offices. I tried to buy from them last time because the price wasn't too much more, but then they called me and said they had the price wrong and it would be a lot more. So, I told them I had to order online.

I do the same. I get copy of script and go to 1800contacts. They price match other companies. I have used them for years and never had a problem. I use the same kind as you, accuview moist. Dont feel terrible. I tell my optometrist every year, I get them online. Its always cheaper

Re: Contact Lens wearers...a few questions

My DH’s company makes my contacts, so I get them for free, so I have my eye place order them for me.

I keep my glasses in my car, just in case I forget to put them in. I also feel like contacts are better made now bc I used to lose a lense often growing up wearing them, and I have yet to have that happen.

Nothing would happen if you slept in them for one night or if there was some kind of medical emergency and they stayed in.
It's not the most comfortable thing in the world when you wake up and they are all dried out and stuck to your eyeballs, but you won't do damage to your eye if you did it once

I don’t wear my contacts as often now as I used to. But when I do wear them I keep my glasses in my purse Incase I lose one, or something happens. I also have prescription sunglasses. I wear dailies and usually get a 3 month supply from the optometrist. If I need more I go on to EZ contacts website and I put the script for each lens on the order form. I get this from the lens boxes. Then it asks for your optometrists information and they call and verify the information before filling the order.

Since its the first time you are ordering lenses, I'd get them from your doctor because you may have issues with them and its easier to return/change them with your doctor. However, after this year, definitely get them somewhere else because you can usually get them cheaper elsewhere (I've found that Costco has the best prices).

I have to say, I've been wearing contacts since I was 11 and this never even occurred to me! You should NEVER sleep in your lenses, but one night won't do anything. Your eyes will be uncomfortable , dry, etc...but in your scenario if God-forbid you were unconscious got in an accident...I don't know if a hospital would check. But it is on your license that you were corrective lenses, or will be next time you renew, so hopefully they would see it on that and hopefully you are never in a situation were you can't speak or family can't get to you in a couple of days and let them know. I know it's new for you, but I promise you, after a few weeks, it will all be second nature!
