What would you do before moving?

Hi all. So I’m 2 days we are moving out of our house to a new house 15 minutes away. We Are really excited about the new house and our kids both under 6 years old are excited as well. As we’re
getting closer to the moving date, my husband and I have been getting sad and sentimental. We moved here 7 years ago, had both of our kids here and so we’re getting a bit sentimental. Is there anything special that we could do before we leave here? Anything we can do with our little ones?

Thanks so much in advance!

I would say possibly do a photo book of all of the rooms, but I’m sure they’re almost empty now or filled with boxes? Or maybe walk through the house and do a video with the kids. They could say their most favorite memory in each of the rooms.

Make a copy of your house key for the new owners, keep the original for yourself. Attach a pretty ribbon and tag to it that reads, "Our First Home" and hang it on your Xmas tree. Alternatively, frame the key with a picture of the house.

Recreate a few memorable pics you've had in the house. For example, we have 3 huge trees on our front lawn and since the kids were little, we've ALWAYS taken pics of them in front of those trees. Every first day of school pic has been in front of them too so they hold a lot of memories.

Have a sign made with the longitude and latitude coordinates of your house and overlay a picture of the house.

Maybe collect some items from around the property and put them in a pretty glass jar to display in your new home. Or silly as this might sound, fill a mason jar with some dirt from the property and label it with a cute saying like, "Where we'll always be rooted".

Make a video walk through so you never forget anything.

Before leaving for the last time, take a minute to just stand in the rooms and take it all in. Breathe and remember.

Good luck on your new home!! Chat Icon

I'd make a new memory! I'm sure you guys are mostly packed... do you have a tent or blow up mattresses? Maybe camp out and have game night and s'mores in one of the empty rooms. As a farewell to the house and a thanks for the memories. And congrats on the new place! Chat Icon
