What to get a friend

My friend lost her baby boy at 27 weeks... this was 3 weeks ago. We speak regularly but I haven’t heard from her and she finally texted me today. What do I do for her? I’m seeing her Monday and bringing over dinner. This would be her first. The babies room was done and everything and her shower would be in 2 weeks. I feel so sad for her Chat Icon I’m so heartbroken for her I felt like I was going to throw up after we got off the phone

I would just bring some flowers and dinner and be there to listen.

I'm so sorry. This is the 4th late stage pregnancy loss I've heard about in a month. I have a friend who lost her baby girl at 24 weeks, and 2 friends of friends who lost at 30+ weeks. Absolutely awful.

I am soo sorry for your friend! I think just being there for her is most important. Maybe go get your nails done or spa treatment?
or if it's a nice day, the beach just to relax and hang out.

I would just go over there with the food and be there for her. I can’t imagine what she is going through, but with my miscarriages, I didn’t want any gifts, cards or anything bc reminders were so painful. I just wanted people to listen if I wanted to talk and to just be there.

I’m so sorry for your friend.

Re: What to get a friend

When my friend's daughter lost her firstborn at 24 weeks, we ordered an angel wind chime with the baby's name and birth date.
When she was ready, she showed me pictures of the baby and the memory box she had for him. Her own mom couldn't look at the pictures.
When her second son was born, we gave him a guardian angel charm because his big brother was watching over him.

Nothing one can say makes it any better, but just being there for your friend and listening can be healing.

I can't even imagine what she's going through- there's nothing to fix that. Giving her space to grieve and being there now that she reaches out is the best thing you can do. I wish her all the best. Chat Icon

Re: What to get a friend

I would not do flowers because they die as well.

Bring over some food (she may not want to eat at all) or a GC to a local restaurant. Most importantly, remember, and talk to her the months coming, especially the due date, Mother’s Day, etc..

I have not been in this situation, but you can FM if you want more information.

bring an awesome dessert with the dinner, maybe bring a movie to watch? I don't think you need to bring flowers. My sister had given me a brand name purse clutch and while I know she meant well it was painful to see it cause I remembered why she gave it to me.

try and avoid bringing up stuff about your kids during the night. I know when I had pregnancy loss that would have been my first, it was difficult hearing coworkers or relatives talk about their kids. For me it just triggered the will it ever happen, why did it have to happen thoughts.

Maybe have a tree planted in the babies name?
