IUD's - any experience with Mirena or Paragard?

DH and I are pretty sure we're done having kids, but not sure enough that we're ready to do anything permanent. Saw my OB yesterday and she recommended an IUD. I've always taken the pill, and while it's worked, honestly I'm not the best at remembering to take it every day. I'm leaning more towards the Mirena, but I'm really nervous about the possibility of it moving or being placed wrong, and of any side effects. Anyone have experience with either?

Re: IUD's - any experience with Mirena or Paragard?

I had the Paragard. Although I did have heavy periods during the time I had it in, I loved not having to worry about taking pills, etc. etc. At one point, I developed a cyst and my bleeding got really bad.. it felt weird and so I went to the doctor and they told me it was out of place. I got it removed and haven't gotten it back since but I really enjoyed having it.

I have the paraguard and I love it. I really didn't want to deal with hormones so I was so happy when the doctor said I'd be a good candidate for that one. I had very light periods after having my second and they really never got any heavier after it was placed. They last a little longer but are still light. I don't think they recommend it if you have heavy periods. It's good for 10 years which is pretty awesome.

I have the mirena. It's fine. I get terrible cramps and bloating for like a week before my period which never happened when I was on the pill. Lots of women don't get a period at all with it so I don't think I'm the norm. I've considered taking it out but I know I'll forget to take the pill and I don't want any more kids.

I have the Paraguard IUD. I have been happy with it. I was nervous about getting it initially but overall it is the best birth control I have used.

I'm 5 months postpartum. I've had Mirena for 9 weeks. Love not having to think about birth control. I bleed lightly for the first month. My first period was light. Everything says it takes 6 months to fully adjust but so far it's all manageable, and again, I love not thinking about it. I have friends who loved it, and a friend that it didn't work for, bad side effects. It seems to depend on the person. I was nervous but no issues so far.

I had paraguard for a couple of years, and I did not like it. Well, I liked not having to take pills or think about it. but I was bleeding for almost half the month. It was awful. My period was heavier and longer, and then I spotted a lot. I figured take it out because I was bleeding so much, it wasn't worth it.

I'm considering the mirena or skyla myself, but I'm worried about the hormones.

I had Mirena for about 3 years before we started ttc for #2. No complaints, my period only lasted like 2 days each month and no cramps. Would use it again :)
