I will tell you that my older son, when he was in k, came home and told me that he didn't want to wear character underwear because it was too babyish and he didn't want to get made fun of. He does still, in 4, wear some character shirts, but they are often funny ones. Other than that, he refuses. And did last year as well. Character book bags and lunch bags stopped last year too!

Silly question about sneakers
this is crazy... they are 5! they are still babies!!
My 3rd grader still wears (and loves!) her pepper pig and hello kitty underwear... and still likes character shirts.

This makes me so sad. Why can't we let kids just be kids, and more importantly, let them express who they are and what they like. Isn't this what we want to teach our children about confidence and individuality? Be who you are and like what you like! Why conform to what "everyone else is doing" at any age?

We can. I do. And DD hasn't been picked on or bullied yet.
I say if your kid likes it, get it.
Teach them to be an individual and do what THEY like .
And at this age they outgrow shoes and clothes so quickly it's not like they will be wearing it for years....
