If I lived 5 min away, I'd be fine with the time.

I'd be ok with it but would rather 5-7. Two hours is more than enough for a kids birthday party.

I agree with this. Anything more then two hours for a kids party starts to feel torturous. I know its summer but at that age my kids still went to bed at 8.

I would do 4-7 or 5-7. I think afternoon is fine but 8 is a little late to end imo. I don't mind a home party being a little longer since things don't always move as quickly as a party place.

bday party time

I wouldn't want to go 5-8. If it's a Saturday, we'd prob be going out that night. If it's a Sunday we have camp the next day. Just my opinion.

3 hours is also long. Is this a pool party? Will you have a tent to provide shade?

8 would mess up bed time for some families.

bday party time

I would go. My kids are usually in bed between 8-8:30, but I would let it go for one night for a party. But some kids go to bed earlier than 8, and can get cranky, so I'm not sure I would host a party that late.

Re: bday party time

A few things. 3 hours is long for a 3yr old birthday party. I feel like an hour and a half for a kids party is the perfect amount of time. I get that you want it to be longer since it's at your house, but I'd cap it at 2 hours. Frankly, I sort of loathe house parties because they seem to have no end. Also, that timing is like the most buggy time of day. Oh.. and my kid is in bed by 7-7:30. So for ME it wouldn't be ideal for a lot of reasons.

Re: bday party time

Ive been to late afternoon parties - and even though I dont love it, I go for close friends and family.

My kids go to bed at 7/7:30 so 5-8 is hard for us - they are usually wiped by 6:30 or so, then they would fall asleep in the car on the way home...then i would have to wake them...ugh...nightmare.

If it were me, I would have the party 2-5.

This.. I would rather 4-7 at that age. I also think ending at 8 is a little late.

Re: bday party time

I think 5-8 is a little late bc some kids, including mine, would be a mess at that time and goes to bed at 7 bc he doesn't nap. 4-7 sounds good. I also think 3 hours is a good length of time if you have some sort of entertainment (character, balloon artist, animals, etc) If not, then 2-2.5 is plenty.

In my case, my DS is turning 4 in August and we live in FL so it's horribly hot! We are doing his party at home from 10-1 (or maybe 12:30). As of now I plan to rent one of those giant inflatable water slides and have that be the entertainment. This way they can play and get wet in teh beginning and then settle down for lunch and cake and be done. People can then go on with the rest of their saturday.

Re: bday party time

Like other said a 3 hour party really is torturous. I was wonder how a kid party could be so short till I actually started going to them and now I get the whole 1.5 -2 hour party Chat Icon depending the type of party I can see it being almost 3 hours.

That said I wouldn't do it at night why because of the mosquito but I am crazy like that and I think 5-8 for 3 year old party is later.

I rather 11-1 or 10-2 but my DC didnt/dont nap at home at 3 years old and even if they did I would let the skip the nap or nap them afterwards

Re: bday party time

Personally, 5-8 would be fine by me. I like to have my daughter (3.5) by 8:30, but that doesn't always happen in the summer. It's a house party, so it's more laid back than a party at a play place.

And it definitely depends on the crowd- are they parents the type that you normally hang out with or more like acquaintances? If you don't really know them well, 5-7 would be better, otherwise party on.
