Birth control...

What has everyone use for birth control after giving birth? I'm so scared of getting pregnant again even though we use fertility treatment on our own the first time. The twins are 4 months old and I obviously don't want any more kids any time soon or at all. I thought DH and I were on board with no more and he was going for a snip sometime in the near future... well he randomly brings up that he really loves being a dad and wants more... ummm hell no... I'm not going to force him to do for a snip and I won't shut out the idea of a 3rd... maybe in like 5 years or something but absolutely j want no more babies as of now. We've been using condoms but I worry about having a slip. I'm hesitant to go on the pill I was on it so long and never did well. My cycles have NEVER been regular and finally since having the twins they are like clock work which is amazing. I was thinking of paraguard and will talk to my doctor. I had a c section so would I even be able to get it? Not sure how these things work?

I am on the pill, mainly because it regulates my cycle. Without it, I get my period every 21-23 days and get horrible cramps (I still get cramps but not as bad). If you don't like the pill you could talk to your doctor about other options.

I used the pill before DH and it worked perfectly. Then for some reason that I can't remember I stopped and only did the withdrawal method, also having in consideration my menstrual cycles. It has always worked for us (8 yrs), except the 2 times we were trying to conceive of course. I also briefly try the pill again after giving birth to ds1, but had to stop soon after because it made me feel really weird.

I have a paraguard IUD- this is my second one I had one before I started ttc my dd. It can cause heavy bleeding the first few months after insertion. Here is info on how it works:

My Dr is pro IUD. Infertility did not work for us as birth control... go figure! We use condoms. If you are truly pro no child... they work!

Re: Birth control...

The pill. But both times after both girls, I had to do some trial and error before I found one that didn't make me highly anxious and/or irrtiable. I found the tri-cyclic ones after kids to work better than the Lo-dose ones.

Eta: I too, am finally normal cycle-wise after kids for the first time in my life. The pill is really just for bc at this point and not to make me regular. We've also used condoms (when I forget to make a doctors appt to get more refills) but we just don't enjoy it as much.

We had our twins through IVF so we weren't worried about birth control. Well when they were 8 months old, we had sex one time (yes, I remember the day- we were exhausted and weren't sleeping much, it was teething hell x 2) and that's how I wound up with my 3rd.Chat Icon

DH did not believe it! He was like how is this possible? LOL. Needless to say, after my 3rd, I went on the pill right away. I actually begged DH to get snipped, but he refuses to get 'surgery' as he calls itChat Icon.

Same. Infertility gives me a very small chance. I'll take those chances and hope for a miracle baby. Haven't used anything since 2011.

We needed to use my DH's frozen sperm from before chemotherapy. It's impossible for us to get pregnant naturally.

I second this. Don't count on it unless you are OK if it goes "wrong". Speaking from experience, I think having a baby can reset some stuff (even if using lots of medical technology to have that baby).

I met patient who had unprotected sex for years, due to IF or assumed they cant get pregnant and ended up having unexpected pregnancies. Assuming IF has caused issues in the past does not mean it cant happen, Dr are not always 100% right. :), which is what many were basing the assumption on

Right?? I'm miscarriage prone which unfortunately ended our "I'm so infertile it won't happen to me" pregnancy... So in that regard, no reset here either. Chat Icon
