Anyone have experience with Long Island IVF

Have been dealing with IF since 2015. Had 3 failed medicated IUIs that were paid for by insurance. No more benefits as of 2017. Went on to IVF (paying out of pocket). During the cycle, 2 very large Fibroids and Polyps were found on sonogram while I was stimming. Egg Retrieval was carried out yesterday. I only had 6 eggs and 2 fertilized. Transfer is postponed until after uterine surgery.

My ER experience was a mess, nurses and ER doctor did not have the correct orders to freeze all. Nothing was noted about the fibroids/polyps. Apparently even my IVF nurse was not aware that my case became a freeze all.

ICSI was not used. A haphazard plan was made this morning to freeze them on day 5, if they make it. My doctor emailed me this afternoon and suggested that "next time" we use ICSI. Not using ICSI was his judgment call, not mine. And we cannot afford a next time.

I still need to have corrective surgery before a transfer. Need opinions and experiences on a day 3 freeze. Also, very strongly thinking about finding another doctor to do surgery and transfer. Any reccomendations for a female doctor would be appreciated as well.

Thank you for reading. Many many thanks.

Found Polyps and Fibroids During IVF Cycle

Oh wow, I'm so sorry. What RE did you go to? I would think ICSI is pretty standard now. I hope some of the ladies chime in with some recommendations. Hang in there.

Re: Found Polyps and Fibroids During IVF Cycle

eeshhh..

I used RMA in Philadelphia, b/c i live in Pa. they have networks in NY and NJ. My dr's and staff were wonderful and there are female drs in the network.

However, I get the frustration. We didnt use ICSI the first time b/c there were no male factor issues. I chose on the form to do ICSI at RMA's discretion. so if they found it was needed they had my permission. but it was recommended after all of our tests that they didnt think we would need it.

I had 8 eggs retrieved first cycle and 2nd cycle. But my eggs were not so hot. I had two fertilize w/o ICSI. Trust me, I wonder if maybe I would have had a better chance if they used ICSI. With age, the outer shells of the eggs become harder for the sperm to get through. I'll never know.

I hope you find a new practice that will work better for you.

Thanks for the replies! Not using ICSI isn't the main source of my frustration. It's more the issue of the lack of communication and it is just assumed that we will just try again. We can't. It's also being assumed that the 2 embryos will not survive but he is not giving me any information as to their quality.
Does anyone know if Day 3 freeze still exists? Considering my options, I might not have a choice.

Re: Anyone have experience with Long Island IVF

i like how they just assume you're going to go another cycle.

when my 2nd cycle with RMA failed, I had already told the dr at the beginning that it was my last shot as I was out of insurance benefits after that. the nurse had called me to give me the bad news and im crying on the phone and she's like "do you want to make an appt to see dr. so and so for your next cycle." IM like NOPE..he knew this was the end for me. Thanks..bye.

I didnt like that particular nurse anyway from my dealings with her in the office. she was the ONLY staff member I didnt like. Of course she had to be the one to call me with shit news.

I never froze any embryos, so I have no advice on that :(

No advice but a polyp was found at my retrieval and removed while I was out.

Hi, I used LI IVF for my first go around and I agree, communication was not their strong point in my situation as well.
Are you thinking if you freeze on day 3 you could do a 3 day transfer after surgery and you are cleared to transfer?

I always froze on Day 3 because I was always nervous letting them go till Day 5. Some people feel better having the embies in them during that time; than in a dish. But each woman has their own feelings and opinions on that since many do prefer Day 5.

If your retrieval was yesterday; it may be hard for them to get a true quality diagnosis for you today. However, I would call the Embryologist tomorrow. They are very good at giving you info. Just call the Main Desk and ask for the Embryology Department. You may have to leave a message for him to call you back though. But he will.

Bypass the Doctor if you are at the point you dont want to talk to him.

You have every right to know whats going on with your own embryos. Regardless of who you ask for the information.

Anyone have experience with Long Island IVF

I used LI IVF the last time I did IVF. I had a freeze all plan (doctor suggested that) and it was never in the notes. I had to tell every single person I came in contact with because they all were talking about when the transfer would be. I had to repeat myself many times about it was a freeze all cycle and there is no 3 or 5 day transfer. I was very frustrated. When I did my transfer the girl before me came an hour late, I was prepped and ready to go and the girl finally shows up and they let her go before me. I wasn't allowed to use the bathroom and was really upset because this girl did not seem to care at all. She said she didnt realize the time, no excuse. I was in pain from not being able to use the bathroom and was just about to be rolled in when she came in late. The nurses were not very pleasant at any of my retrieval or transfers. I had three transfers. It is almost as if they do not look at the chart at all.

Day 3 freeze definitely exists because I just froze two on day 3 on Tuesday. If you don't have many ( I only had 2 fertilize) then it makes sense to freeze on day 3. They told me they froze and were greater than 9 cells. I feel like chances are lower with day 3 but I need to give these 2 the best chance. I would contact your RE and discuss all of the issues that happened. This is not right.

Reading the posts above has definitely helped me feel less crazy and as if I had done something wrong. I made the decision to freeze on day 3. My doctor didn't even return my calls or emails.
I left several messages with the Embryologist to discuss the quality of the embryos and again no reply. Finally, this afternoon I received a call from the financial department explaining that I had a balance due of 3000!! Because I would need to have a new cycle to transfer. I let it be known how unhappy I was with how poorly my monitoring and retrieval were handled. It was only after that conversation that I received a call from the doctor to discuss the embryos.

Needless to say, I will not give them another dime. They won't receive any money from my insurance or from my own pocket. I am going to another clinic out of state that has been highly recommended in this site.

I'm sorry you had such a terrible experience with LIIVF. I think some of it must depend on who your doctor and nurse are. I have done 3 fresh cycles and 1 frozen cycle with them and had no issues until my last cycle which was the frozen one. Things seemed a little more disorganized with scheduling. I got conflicting phone calls about the day of my transfer and then the nurse left me a message with the wrong time the day before so I showed up 2 hours early.
That being said, I loved the nurse that was assigned to me. She was so on top of everything and made my life so much easier. I don't get a lot of eggs either and my last fresh cycle, we transferred one on day 3 and the other embryo was frozen on day 3. It was my doctors recommendation so they definitely freeze on day 3 there. I hope you have better luck at your new clinic!
