Asbestos abatement in a school

I was wondering if anyone here is licensed or knows someone who is licensed in asbestos abatement. My nephew's school district is doing some heavy abatement work over the summer and I had a few questions about how this is done. TIA!

Not licensed but work in construction and we do abatement on our projects all the time. It is a highly regulated process. I am assuming you are worried about contamination.

Yes, thank you. I am concerned because my sister has been give very limited information when she contacted the district (basically-don't worry, it will all be taken care of carefully). I was just wondering what safeguards must be in place by law (how they seal the rooms, negative air machines, etc.) and if the district would be required to get a air quality test from a third party after the work is done.

There needs to be testing done all throughout the process by a 3rd party. And yes the areas need to be sealed etc. I would not worry at all.

Speaking today to a teacher who was in the building while they did some small abatement work this March has made me even more concerned. She said that areas that were supposed to be sealed were tarped off using duct tape and the tarps were hanging loose in some spots. She also believes that the same company who does the abatement handles the air quality testing, if that makes any sense. Is there anyone who I can contact about this?

ETA: Kids were in the school building as the work was being done.

There are usually several levels of containment so the fact that the tarps that she saw were handing does not automatically mean that areas were breached.

There are basically air locks.

And an there is not a requirement of building evac just because abatement is being done. There are various levels of abatement based on the amount of asbestos in the material.

But if you are concerned call the school board and the local environmental agency that is in charge. it will depend on where you live.

But I will say its way more complicated for abatement that what the average person can see from outside the area.

Thank you for your response. Would you happen to know where I can find out information about the local environmental agency? My sister lives in Merrick .

Honestly start with the county. I'd just google it.
