Re: Mamas of Kindergarteners and first graders come in
My 7 year old was just switched into a high back booster with regular seatbelt. I would have kept him in a 5pt harness until he turned 8 but once our newborn arrived, we realized we couldn't fit our kids carseats properly. I have seen kids in prek who are not in car seats at all. Huge risk!

my 5 1/2 year old is in a high back booster.
my almost 9 year old (next month) is in a regular booster still. Could he sit with none? sure by law. But to us, we don't like where the seat belt lies on him (we don't think he's tall enough yet) so we're giving it a little bit more time.

One thing that kills me is the number of kids at DS' school that sit in the front seat (in second grade). We went to the school concert today and were there early to get good seats and saw all of these parents dropping off their second graders sitting in the front seat!
While I believe some do let their kids sit in front... I looked like this when taking DS to camp. We have 3 rows and he would be blocked from getting out by the infant seat (behind passenger side), so would come up the "aisle" and out the passenger seat.

My son does that as well - but, in this case, I was watching the cars pull in with the children sitting in the front seat.

Re: Mamas of Kindergarteners and first graders come in
My 6-year-old kindergartener is in a high back booster with 5 point harness. Most of her friends are, too. She is bugging me about switching to high back with seat belt.

Mamas of Kindergarteners and first graders come in
51/2 year old is still in a 5pt harness and will remain so for at least another year. He complains and I could care less.

It's odd too because my DD never once has complained about being in the 5 pt seat at almost 7 years old. She just thinks it's normal.
