Anyone have a green thumb?

I'm looking to plant some new flowers in my garden but I never know what to get. I have a few hasta's already. The garden is in the sun almost all day.
Any tips are appreciated. Thanks!

just went to a garden center yesterday and picked out the following plants for the front: eouynmous, azalea johana, gold mop cypress, and rhinegold arborvitae. Also got a weeping norway spruce tree and weeping serpentine blue atlas tree.

For the back, I'm planting hostas along the front, and behind them I am planting Incrediball Smooth Hydrangea bushes in white and pink alternating

Be careful with the eouynmous. It can easily grow out of control. The former owners did not maintain our yard well and they were everywhere!! Took forever to rip out.

I love simple impatients. They fill in so well. They always have a lot of flowers and require sun! I like to put them around things. Like around a tree or potted plant etc. They had some kind of fungus so they weren't being sold for three years! But I believe they were back last year.

Are you looking for flowers for just the summer or more permanent plants?

I like the idea of perennials but it's not necessary. I would prefer flowers over plants.

Marigolds love sun and are easy to grow.
Begonias, impatients, vinca (not the vine).
I love gardening!

Really? The guy said (and the tag said) the mature height was 18inx18in. Maybe there are a few different kinds?

I think they had planted a bunch right on top of each other and never pruned them. It was a disaster.

Re: Anyone have a green thumb?

Hosts don'the like full sun, they are a shade plant.

Phlox
Bee balm
Lavender
Coneflower
Sweet William
Dianthus

Daylilies

Coreopsis self seeds and gives height
Cosmos also self seed and give height
Snapdragons are my favorite, come in short and tall varieties.

Begonias and coleus for areas that are a little shady.
