Their cheapness shouldn't make her gift be any smaller BUT i agree with giving her a nice piece of jewelry instead of a cash gift. If they are that cheap, they may take some of her $ gifts to use towards the price of the party.
So an actual gift for her would be nice. I would however buy from a major dept store and give gift receipt incase she does love it. She can get something else.

are they cheap or do they have financial issues or low earners. Florida and out of state affairs are not like NY, gifts are usually just that GIFTS not money or check. Cash, checks that's a NY thing. Most people out of state BRING a physical gift to the wedding, party, bar Mitzvah. Brining a gift would be fine

A piece of jewelry is fine and hardly a punishment. I would have a hard time giving someone $300 cash when they gave me a cheap picture frame.

I would give something from tiffanys in the 200 range. Remember Florida is NOT NY so they will give much less. I would not punish the child because the parents are cheep. Also, it is good to see you around here. Hope all is well with you!

Exactly. Are they from NY or somewhere else. NY, NJ and CA are the only states where people give large monetary gifts. Other states the norm is small token gifts. For my wedding from a family of 5 I got $50. It's the norm there so I didn't blink.

I'm not sure what the uncle of the bat mitzvah girl has to do with the girl 
Regardless, I would either give a gift, in a multiple of $18, for somewhere around $150 or a necklace from Tiffanys.

confused by some of the statements. You and none of us know this would be the case (money part and her not getting it)

Haha, I asked DH and though he's been out of the bar/bat mitzvah circuit for 20 years and thought that was nuts and said you give it in chai? I thought he meant tea but then he explained it's multiples of 18
