If I were in your situation I'd let him go. What's he going to be gone, a night? If he were willing to skip it all together I assume he'd hop on the next flight back if you went into labor.

I'm just curious how he's justifying that he's ok missing the birth of his child?

There aren't many flights to Houston. He isn't going. Now he is moping around the house.

I told him he should go but he said he isn't going.

That's on him then.. not on you.
He still had the option of buying tickets and being able to go if you had the baby beforehand, or losing out on the $$ if you didn't and being there for the birth. He still could have had the opportunity to go, but instead, he's choosing to mope about and hoping you'll feel bad about it.

I'd tell him he's free to go and then promptly book myself a solo trip to Hawaii.

Seriously.

Having recently delivered my third baby totally unexpectedly at 32 weeks, I think the only way I'd say ok is if you are ok with him missing DC's birth. I would not be ok with that at all. So for me, that'd be a big hell to the NO.

This is my thought. If it was my first child - I absolutely would NOT be OK with DH missing the birth. If it was my second, I would want him there. If it was 3+, meh - he's been there for the others, and this is something he really wants and can afford to do - I would give him a kiss, tell him I love him, and to enjoy the game (and would secretly hope they lost).

See I see it differently.
I don't care if it's your first, second, third or tenth baby- the man had a hand in making that baby, he should be there when it's born.
Giving birth is a hard, scary, extremely painful process and I feel like I'd want the moral support of the man who helped me make that baby throughout it.
It's not like you are going for to get a cavity filled, kwim?

If he was deployed overseas, it's one thing.
For a football game, not so much

Yup, each child is an individual human being. Individual birth. Individual situation. I don't consider this at all a BTDT situation.
Also, do you have enough outside support to care for your other children should you go into labor while he's gone? Plus another person to be with YOU?
