When should "Black Friday" start?

Every year, it seems like "Black Friday" gets earlier and earlier. Now, some stores start Black Friday on Thanksgiving evening....

Re: When should "Black Friday" start?

Midnight Friday morning sounds reasonable. You still have the "Thrill" people seek. And employees and Shoppers get to spend the actual holiday with their families.

Re: When should "Black Friday" start?

I always liked the whole 3am Black Friday start!! There is something kind of fun about the whole thing and going out in the dark to shop. Years ago in college I worked at Harrow's and I kind of loved Black Friday, it was a fun, festive kickoff to the holiday season. Chat Icon Starting it on Thanksgiving evening takes away from some of the fun of it.

On Friday itself. Any time. Does not matter to me as I refuse to shop that day. Chat Icon

Never. I find it ironic that this day follows Thanksgiving, you know, the day we should all be humble & grateful for the things we already have.

When should

I have shopped Thursday night but I have also not shopped the entire weekend. I'm of the group that can take it or leave it.

Thats what I liked too. My mom and I always got up around 3 to do our shopping. It was way more fun. I won't go out on Thanksgiving.

When should

i voted for midnight but i really preferred 2-4-6am.

it used to be perfect, we'd stay up after thanksgiving and go to the outlets around 11 PM for their midnight opening (before traffic).

then head to toys r us, target, walmart for 2-4 AM

then head to kohls for 6 am.

these stores have screwed it up for me!

Re: When should "Black Friday" start?

I don't get up in the middle of the night for ANYTHING.
ANYTHING.
Sleep trumps everything.

So even if I was the type of person to shop on Black Friday- which as I mentioned in the other post, I don't do lines and crowds and would rather pay $100 more to avoid them- I would never get up early to shop.
I'm way too tired.

I might "say" I was going to do it. Get all amped up about it. Yep I am getting up at 3 am. I'm doing it. All this when I am on the high of a night owl at 11 pm.
Then 3 am comes-and I'm like - FUK that shit.
And I roll over.

I'd say 4 to 5 am on Friday. I'll never go shopping on Thanksgiving no matter what the discount or deal. Come to think of it, I don't ever shop on Black Friday either. I'm tired after hosting Thanksgiving plus I hate crowds.

Like the pp, I'm a cyber Monday girl.

Re: When should "Black Friday" start?

a few years ago i got up at 3am to hit kohls for a winter coat for DS... ha, after reading the "cool" thread, i should have saved my money.

i did enjoy the "experience" of getting up so early, heading out in the dark and quiet of the hour. i ended up picking up a few other items and was back home and back to sleep by 7am.

aside from rare occasions like that, i can take it or leave it.

Re: When should "Black Friday" start?

I'm all for whenever the stores feel like opening. I seriously don't even care about the flames I will get...but I enjoy being able to get out of the house for a little bit on Thanksgiving evening. So sue me. I spend time with family. But we seriously don't need to sit there staring at each other for 12 hours. That being said...I respect ANY store that stays closed until Friday.

I think the problem people have with stores opening on Thanksgiving is not the shoppers leaving their families to shop if they so choose, but the workers who are FORCED to leave their families.

This. Early but not stupid early. I really am opposed to stores doing it on Thanksgiving. Way to screw over your employees. Isn't Friday enough?

Yea, see the problem is NOT that you have to sit there and stare at your family for 12 hours, its that workers HAVE to leave THEIR families to accommodate this.

Plus, I personally do not think anyone is getting a GREAT deal on many items. I have completed more than 50% of Christmas shopping already, and have gotten good prices and not had to worry about inventory.

I get MUCH better deals prior to Black Friday.
For example- I got all my DD's gifts from Santa over the last month at Target.
They had a coupon about a month ago for $25 off a $100 toy purchase.
Then the next week they had 20% off all toys with a code.
Plus my 5% red card discount.
Plus free shipping all month.
And of course, Ebates

Everything is done and I didn't even have to get off my ass once.

I really think Black Friday "deals" are all just bullshitt and hype

I have never scene a better deal on Black Friday than I could have gotten earlier.

Yup, I hate crowds and I am not getting up in the middle of the night in cold weather to go get a toy. If I can't 'add it to cart' then its not meant to be. Chat Icon

Walmart had some great deals on toys over the past month and with ebates, I did really good.

Right. I mean if the stores took a survey and people wanted to work and make holiday pay then I would be like cool

But to have to work. When you don't want to. That sucks

My niece is in retail and lives over an hour away from me and has spent every Thanksgiving the past few years without family because she had to work. I say wait until Friday for the employees!

I agree! I used to love black friday shopping & loved it when it was 3 or 4 am. Since stores have started opening on thanksgiving, the tradition for us is over Chat Icon If the stores open on thanksgiving now and you attempt to go, even at midnight the places are a mess & its not fun.
