Why is thanksgiving the black sheep of holidays?
Seriously? I feel like it's so hard to find stuff for thanksgiving compared to every other holiday-decor, children's books, pjs/clothes, toys etc.

YES! YES! YES!
Thanksgiving is my FAVORITE holiday. I am obsessed but I noticed that you have to buy everything online. Stores just don't stock it. They go from Halloween to Christmas. It is ridiculous.
Pottery Barn/Bed Bath and Beyond they usually have decor but mostly like plates and tablecloths. There isn't a lot of "fun" decorations and outdoor stuff.
Michael's always has one tiny little stand for Thanksgiving crafts. Some years the stuff is VERY cute. This year I found it very small and didn't love most of the options. We usually do our own crafts I google online.
PJS and clothes are also hit or miss. Like carters and childrens place and kohls usually stock like 1 or 2 themed outfits. So it's just whether or not it is still in stock and you like it. Almost every year I have just gotten her a really fancy Ralph Lauren dress that has looked Autumn (dark colors, etc.)
For children's books I recommend: Bear Gives Thanks by Karma Wilson, The Thankful Book by Todd Parr, Happy Thanksgiving Curious George and Seed Sprout Pumpkin Pie... but yes, other holidays get a ton of more interesting and fun books. and I have no idea about toys.

Stores aim for kids. They make more money selling to kids than adults. Halloween is a very kid-centric holiday, as is Christmas. How many kids have you heard begging for turkey themed toys...

Re: Why is thanksgiving the black sheep of holidays?
There are plenty of Thanksgiving decorations around, I have a SO much! Also, realize they usually tie Thanksgiving into the fall season so things like gourds, pumpkins, leaves, etc all carry over for Thanksgiving. Your best bet to find Thanksgiving things is to look when the fall things come out because once Halloween is over, it's usually all Xmas.
I've found cute Thanksgiving things at Pier One, Home Goods, Marshalls and even Target over the years. I just changed my "Halloween Tree" over last night to my "Thanksgiving Tree" and I found plenty of cute things to decorate with.
ETA - I've always found Thanksgiving pj's for my kids at either Carter's or Gymboree.

Please post a pic of your Thanksgiving tree!!! I agree, I have seen cute Thanksgiving decor at Homegoods, Pier 1, Christmas Tree Shops. Believe it or not, I was in Stop & Shop yesterday and they had a bunch of cute 'give thanks' signs. Of course it's not as much as Hallween or Christmas, but it's out there. It's mostly fall stuff anyway and you can craft your own if you're into that. I get all my books on Amazon anyway so you'll find a bigger selection there than in any store.

Re: Why is thanksgiving the black sheep of holidays?
Because there isn't enough money to be made with it. You don't give presents on Thanksgiving. That's what it's all about in this country. Money.

Carters has PJ's....I've never seen Thanksgiving toys. Those would offend people anyway. Pilgrims and Indians, but you can't even say Indians, so to have toys relating to what actually happened on Thanksgiving? I dunno...
Holiday Decor is in all the craft stores. There are plenty of books about Thanksgiving. But, Thanksgiving doesn't have "photos with the turkey for pictures" (would anyone do that?!), light up displays outside, gift giving, etc., so of course it isn't going to be a huge "to do" in the stores. There is only SO MUCH you can buy for Thanksgiving. The grocery stores cash in on Thanksgiving though!

Why is thanksgiving the black sheep of holidays?
Probably because too many people focus on the shopping associated with thanksgiving instead of thanksgiving itself.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. We put our dining room Christmas tree up for the holiday. I feel like it's similar in feel, but with out the pressure to "buy" things. It's about family and food.

There is no additional money involved - just a gathering of people eating. So the capitalist can't make money.

Exactly, they are more focused on the black Friday deals.
