I think it depends on the field.

For something like teaching? No.
For something such as a doctor, lawyer, or certain fields of finance? Absolutely.

Not necessarily. I am an attorney and have worked with people (all at the same level) from all different "levels" of law schools. In general, unless you're talking Ivy League vs any other school, I don't think it makes too much difference. I think Ivy League is really the only thing that would make any significant difference.

I'm an attorney, and I think it really depends on what you want to do/where you want to work. I worked for a top large law firm with a national/international presence, based in Manhattan. Much to my chagrin, we would only recruit from the top law schools (Ivy League or places like NYU, Georgetown, Univ of Michigan, Univ of Chicago). I think we overlooked a lot of great candidates in limiting our recruiting pool, but that's what the firm's recruiting policy was and is. There are also powerful alumni networks from these schools which open doors at certain types of firms and prestigious government positions (U.S. Attorney's office) and in-house positions.

Networking is a powerful tool when job-hunting in any field, so I think a school (regardless of its ranking/prestige factor) can be helpful if it has a strong alumni presence in the field/companies/areas of career interest.

(FYI - I went to a local undergrad school on LI and an Ivy League Law School.)

I think it depends on the industry. I also think the more far-removed from your college years you are, the more your work experience counts.
