if you live with a family member or a friend and there is no formal "lease agreement," should you/could you get renter's insurance?

Yes. It protects your items in the event of fire, water damage etc. -We don't require lease agreements in order to get renters.

If you live in a room in someone's house that already has a homeowners policy on it you probably will not be able to get renters as the home is already insured.

We had renters insurance while living in an apartment that was part of my aunts house.
