Has anyone floated the idea to get into politics?
I was amazed at the youth who were tearing up over Bernie. I think younger people don't get a lot of credit when it comes to political followings. I think he (in particular) carved out a path for everyday folks to maybe get more involved.
That being said, has anyone ever thought of getting involved or more involved in the political system in any capacity?
Does anyone feel more inspired?
I don't think I could, but it may be nice to be somewhat involved.

Yes. I have.
My dad worked in local politics for the town of North Hempstead. I have thought about going in but declined.

I actually have...never real seriously but I am thinking maybe on the school board level.
While I was in law school I became a con law junkie. While most people see it as boring I actually love it. It gave me a better insight into how things work in the government and how you interpret the Constitution.
And I have to say while i've never been much into politics I have watched most of both conventions this year and I see a need for young people to get involved.....I'm not young so it's a bit to late for me to launch a full blown political career I will do what I can.

No. No matter how good you are, roughly half of the people will hate you. Oftentimes solely because you are part of the "other side". Other times because helping one group goes against what another group wants. It's a thankless job, IMO.

Locally yes - but I think it's too much about who you know and having the money to back it up. I don't think it would be easy to get started as an unknown. It's also a huge personal committment and I don't know that I am cut out for the down and dirty aspects, I'm too idealistic LOL

I know what you mean. Plus I know it means compromising and then turning around and telling all your people "well, this is good! Look at what we accomplished!"
It's like your promising a whole pizza and just coming back with the tomato sauce and acting like it's totally cool. I couldn't do that.

I did on a local level in Brooklyn. However, I came to realize that it did not feel like a noble cause because the people who were involved were shady characters (who I knew from my neighborhood).

Re: Has anyone floated the idea to get into politics?
When I began dating dh he asked me if I would support him if he ran for an office in future. I said sure thinking he would never run and we were teenagers. Now he has brought it up again. I don't know if he actually would ever do it but I don't know if I would want him to. No matter how good of a person you are someone will always hate you. With a young family I would be afraid to be in the public eye.

Yes, I aspire to do this in the future. Nothing crazy, but I'd like to start with the school board and move up from there.
