Pumping
Have been Pumping for three full days now...I am so E gorged and am not producing much so am in tons of pain. One side seems to be starting to produce as I have been able to get close to one oz on certain. Sessions but the other side is nothing.
Ready to give up although don't really want to...but does anyone have any tips??

Are you just pumping and bottle feeding? Not nursing? If you are nursing there is no reason to pump right now. You need to let your body figure out supply/demand while just feeding your little one. If you are needing to bottle feed, try to get on a strict pumping schedule.

How often are you pumping? I think you need to do a minimum of every three hours. Just be consistent and don't give up. Do you have a hands free bra so you can pump both sides at once? I actually found hand expressing to be helpful before my milk came in. Also try to see a lc as right away to get some tips like if your flanges fit correctly and things like that.

pumping every 3 hours ( but at night i am doing every 4 hours). I am also double pumping. Just wondering when i will start producing more and my damn boobs will stop being so engorged!

I nursed and it still took awhile for my boobs to get into the swing of things. I dealt with a lot of clogged ducts and two rounds of mastitis! Not fun!
I'd try hand expressing in a hot shower (I know, easier said than done with a week old baby) before pumping. Not necessarily every time, but when you are feeling especially engorged.
Also, I didn't produce a lot of milk right away either, but it's the right amount for your baby's age. They're only able to eat very little, very often, so your body is only producing what it needs. I found this helpful:

ETA: Is the side that's not producing still feeling engorged? If so, it sounds like a badly clogged duct. The thing that works best in that situation is nursing, if you want to try that, particularly with baby's chin pointed toward the clog- weird as that sounds. Otherwise, warm, wet compresses or hot showers with hand expressing and massage are your best friends. You can try a heating pad, too, but wet heat works much better for some reason.
If it's NOT engorged and not producing, I'd just try to keep pumping on schedule for another week or so. If it doesn't improve, you can try solo power pumping on that side. Pump for 20 minutes, rest for 10, pump for 10, rest for 10, then pump for 10. It mimics a growth spurt in your baby and tells your body to produce more. This worked for me. Right breast still produces more, but lefty has caught up considerably!  My friend called this "the stud and the dud"! Good luck!

Thanks! That chart is very helpful although today I am having a bad day with a clogged duct now ugh. I am still not producing all that much but I guess I just have to continue trying. This is so damn exhausting though and now with this duct thing I'm getting totally discouragedlol.

I EP for both my kids til they were 1. You can do it, it's very frustrating in the beginning. That chart above is great, I wish I had that when my first was born.
Just before you pump, try holding a warm washcloth over your breast and massage for a couple minutes, and then keep massaging while pumping. This will help clear up the clogged duct. I had many of those and they can be painful.

Ugh, sorry to hear about the clogged duct- I HATE those! Someone in one of the mommy groups on my FB mentioned using a diaper as a compress- it seems to be a little less messy than a washcloth since it holds the water in! I haven't tried it but thought it sounded genius!
ETA: I even heard a decongestant like you would take for a cold can help a clogged duct. Again, never tried it, but I know the pain and I would try ANYTHING to get rid of it.

Yes, use a diaper as a warm compress! Hold it on or stick it in your bra for a few minutes before and then during pumping. It stays warm for so long. You can try soaking it in warm water and massaging or massaging in the shower. Just look out for flu like symptoms or fever bc it can progress into mastitis. If so, contact your ob right away for meds. Are things going any better now?
