Restaurants in Lake George or on the way
Hello! We are driving up from LI to Laje George for 4th of July weekend. It's been a good 10 years since we've been. Any rec's on where to stop and eat on our way there and once we get there?
What to do and see?
Where can I rent a boat?
Thanks for any info!

Restaurants in Lake George or on the way
I live somewhat in the area, but I am not too familiar with the Lake George area.
En route, I would stop in either Albany or Saratoga and go to Druthers Brewing Company or stop in Saratoga and go to The Local on the Lake. They're both kid friendly and serve pub style food.

Re: Restaurants in Lake George or on the way
In LG there are a lot of places to eat. We always really like Adirondack Brew Pub - their food is great, cute atmosphere and family friendly. We also love the Log Jam in Queensbury, which is right down the road at the outlets. Pizza Jerks for pizza. Definitely stop in at the LG Baking Co. for some treats...sooooo delicious.
Chicks Marina rents boats out of their Diamond Point location next to the Algonquin restaurant (also a GREAT place to eat right on the water, but not right in town).
For things to do: Take a ride on the Minne Ha Ha which takes you part way up the lake - the view is beautiful!
Mini Golfing right at Pirates Cove on the edge of town
Great Escape is right there - that's an all day activity
There's a beach for swimming
We also go tubing every year on the Hudson with Adirondack Tubing Company which is down the road. SO MUCH FUN and cheap! You can pack your own lunches and drinks and they rent floating coolers. Its incredibly relaxing and a total BLAST.

Re: Restaurants in Lake George or on the way
I second the Adirondack Brew Pub. We also like Mama Riso's which has Italian food. We have tried lots of places in LG over the years and I have to say most of them are pretty mediocre and overpriced. (Maybe I'm eating in the wrong places?) The Boathouse has been highly recommended to me so we are going to try it next time we are there.
Otherwise, the only place I would recommend is George Henry's which is a little north in Warrensburg. We go every summer, never have to wait for a table, and they have amazing burgers and good service. I also like going to a less touristy and crowded place.
For the trip up, we like the Starway Cafe and Pizza Star (which is actually a diner with a pizza place in the back) in Saugerties.

I'll agree that most places are mediocre.
We're not big fans of the Boathouse. It's okay...the view is beautiful. But for on-the-water dining we find that the Algonquin is much better than the Boathouse. The food is just "eh".
I forgot to mention, for breakfast we love Suttons in Queensbury or Lone Bull in Diamond Point. And for drinks we really like The Boardwalk (upstairs on the deck). And for a hidden gem, The Top of the World Grille is very nice for lunch or dinner. It's small and located on the top of Lockhart Mountain, but the views of the lake are to DIE for. Totally worth the trip up there - you can literally see the lake in both directions for miles. We got married up at the Farmhouse there and go back every year...even just for a few drinks outside. But call ahead because they're not always open during the week.
