Thumb Sucker - Nail Polish
My 2 1/2 year old sucks both of her thumbs going to bed. She's obsessed when I get my nails done and always wants her done. I got piggy paint from BBB that I've used on her toes and her other fingers but not thumbs. I really want to take her to the nail salon with me to get a real mani/pedi but I'm torn about doing her thumbs. Should I just have them do her other fingers and not her thumbs? Should I have them use their paint or the piggy paint?

Honestly, nail salons skeeve me and there is NO way I'd take a child that young to one.
They are very dirty no matter how clean they look.
Especially for a pedicure. My podiatrist told me stories about fungus in those tubs- hiding in the jets where they can't clean- that made me swear off pedis forever. I will never have a normal big toenail again thanks to these places.
I would do her nails myself - with piggy pant- and not do the thumbs.
Cheaper and safer IMO

I agree with NervousNell. I wouldn't take her to a nail salon that young.
Also, I think it would be nice mother-daughter time. Make an event out of it - mani (and not do the thumbs) and then play dress up or read some books or do something she will enjoy to do with you

I agree with not going. I stopped going myself after speaking to my derm & multiple visits for foot infections.
It happened to me at multiple places.

I personally wouldn't do her thumbs (and I will never take DD to a nail salon unless it's a super upscale place that's actually sanitary without jets), even with Piggy Paint. I find that this brand chips off horribly and I wouldn't want her eating it, even though it's "safer".

Dd's reward for stopping sucking her thumb was getting her nails painted. I use the piggy polish even tho she doesn't suck anymore.
I do it at home.

I totally hear what you're saying but the two salons I go to put a plastic bag IN the foot tub and all the water is technically in the plastic bag. Then when it's over the bag is disposed of.
It's not like a super market bag but a specific bag for this that has elastic on the top. Also there is a new law and I see now most places have disposable nail files and whatnot. All gets opened from plastic and thrown away.
However at 2.5 your child will probably just mess it up anyway. So I would also do the piggy polish at home. My 3yo has been a few times and messes it up within seconds

If it's like that...in a bag with no jets. ..I'd be ok with it.
They really need to outlaw those nasty jetted foot tubs. It doesn't even feel good to me to be honest. I never saw the point.

I will have to take note next time I go! Because I doubt they all got new foot baths but regardless those jets would be covered. The one I mostly go to is brand new and looks like a Thai spa. I know the foot bath changes color but I'll look for the jets.

Same here! My podiatrist offers manicures and pedicures so I go there every once in a while for a pedicure.
