I know this is silly but I have actually started developing anxiety over terror. I am always scared that something is going to happen. I go to the mall, I think someone's going to bomb it or shoot it up. I get on a train I fear it will be attacked. I Hate that I feel this way..I want it to go away. :( I don't speak about it often as I don't want people to say oh stop.. its fine, it wont happen, I fear getting made fun of. So to answer the question I don't want to travel anywhere out of the untied states. Even though I still fear our Railroads and our city. I feel safer here still. I am going to Aruba next fall but I feel safe traveling there. Oh wanted to add I have had this anxiety and fear since 9/11. I think that is when I started feeling this way. I know there are other out there that feel like me. But I don't wish anyone to be so nervous when traveling crowded places and always thinking the worst.
I have the same fears!
Me too. When I'm in the mall I always think where would I run to if someone came in with a gun.
It's a sick world.

Me too. I travel into the city everyday for work. The anxiety I have daily is out of control at this point. I've stopped taking the subways and spend as little time as possible in Penn.

You're not alone.
I never, EVER use to be a worrier but now when I'm out (especially with the kids) I find myself taking note of where the exits are and actually thinking about what I would do if I had to get out fast. It makes me sad (and angry) that I think this way but I feel like every time you turn around something bad is happening in the world whether it be a terrorist or just some random psycho going nuts.
I wish the world was a kinder place so we didn't have to worry about these things.

Totally off topic, but we are taking AJ to see the Shedd
Jim's never been to Chicago. I've been like 5times.
We're only there two days (in on a Sat our on a Mon) but I'm hoping to squeeze in the Science & Industry museum and Planetarium .. maybe Lincoln Park Zoo visit. I know Field Museum is a must but budget may say no. CitiPass has all 4 (minus the zoo) plus the Willis Tower but 5 things in 2 days is way overboard
But I'm so totally looking forward to it!

These as well. Basically, any place that is currently an active war zone. I'd also be a bit iffy about China but not because of terrorism, because of pollution.

I'm thinking that's it. We are going to Honduras in 2 weeks which is an active Zika area. No interest in being pregnant. We're gonna take all the precautions to keep from getting sick. There's also, Dengue and Chinkengunya (sp?) there as well. You wouldn't want any of those ******* either!

Re: Where wouldn't you travel to right now?
There was a similar thread after the Paris bombings. I wrote that I was nervous and it really affected me, even where I was anxious about being at the mall, esp with the kids. Some posters responded that you can't live in fear, etc. I totally get it. I went Christmas shopping at Roosevelt Field right before the holiday and that was the day of the shooting at Tourneau. Just sayin'
We are not doing much travel these days with two young kids and wherever we go is mostly close to home. DH is out of the country for work right now but nowhere that is worrisome.

i wouldn't change my travel plans. I'm not going to the middle east anyway but I wouldn't change plans to Europe or south america etc.
I boarded a plane yesterday at 6am. I only flew to LA but it was literally hours after the Brussels bombing. Security was tight and that's all I can do. I'm not going to stop my life for fear. If I did I'd never leave my house.

Where wouldn't you travel to right now?
We are going back to Paris in a few weeks and not changing our plans, though I don't feel as comfortable with it as i'd like to. My DH loves some fondue restaurant in Brussels that he went to once and wanted to do a day trip there by train. That part we are undecided about but I'm leaning towards no happening. The trains make me very nervous over there - esp one from Paris to Brussels. I don't think I'd be able to enjoy it at all. Such a shame that this is how things are now.

I can suggest a fondue place in Strasbourg if you want to switch around your plans. Strasbourg is about 4 hours away and it's a nice trip for 2 days or so.

None. I have no intention of getting pregnant, so I'm not worried about Zika and I certainly wouldn't avoid travel because of the bombing in Brussels. NYC isn't exactly at the bottom of the bombing list and I don't plan on quitting my job so it doesn't really make a difference to me.
My thoughts exactly.

Sure, thank you! I'm just not sure about the trains but I know I shouldn't be like that.

This for me too! We love to travel and continue to do so. We have a very long bucket list and hope to visit a lot, if not all, of our list eventually.

I'm going to also say outside the US.
I may have the chance to go back to Ireland in June and if that does come to fruition I would go, but that's the only place.
Not getting pregnant but Zika has been linked to Guillain-Barre Syndrome (severe but somewhat reversable paralysis) so i'm out.

I travel to Chicago for work at least a couple of times a year. I love it there. Ironically at one of our larger conference earlier this year there was shooting in our Hotel Lobby. A nice hotel we use all the time. It can happen anywhere. I will be there back soon anyway.

Chicago is beautiful but outside of the downtown area it's really really bad. I love the city but their is a reason it's called murder city. Like the outside areas are horrible and it what people refer to. However, I love going to the city, but it's not a true representation of Chicago as a whole. I guess it's like when you visit the Caribbean and stay on the resort.
Baltimore is bad too but the harbor and downtown area is so nice, I love going there!
For me West Virginia and Iraq. Anywhere else goes!
